My Kyosho Ultima Build
My Kyosho Ultima Build
Hi, I am new to the forum, I'm in the Army so this may be a slow build, as of right now I am in transition and will be moving soon so I may not update with pics for a little bit, but just want to post what I have so far and my plans
Here is my Kyosho Ultima. I was maybe 6 or 7 years old when my dad bought it for me used from one of his friends. As a kid I was pretty hard on it, thrashed on it. I have have recently dusted it off, and regained intrest in it.
Since then I have tried to repair the thrashed body the best I could, and sprayed the outside with lexan paint so it looks ok until I get a new body for it.
Here are my plans for it
-RB5 Mod (thanks mikedealer for the info in your posts about it)
-RB5 front hubcarries, spindles, bearings and axles orderd
-RB5 Rear CVDs with the proline version axles
-Plan to mount Jconcepts rulux wheels with 4wd fronts
-Proline Rubber
-New top deck
-New body and cage
-New chassis (I cut some of it when I was younger trying to mod it)
-Install bearings throughout
-replace misc worn out parts
New electronics, maybe just a budget esc and a trinity monster motor with NIMH batteries to get it running again.
Any info on screw kits, and hopups for the era would be appreciated, and any sources for parts as well.
Please comment and post whatever, tell me if you think something wont work, or what you would recomend.
Please add to the list of known parts interchange for anyone with this similar project, let me know if I posted any wrong info, I just want to help. This was my first rc car and its great to start working on it again to continue the fun!!!
So far known parts to fit from what I have gathered
Tower Hobbies ST-15 (some parts identical) -if anyone knows exactly all parts that are the same please list them
Kyosho RB5 front axles/carriers/spindles for modern wheels in front
Kyosho RB5 rear cvds (not worlds)

Re: My Kyosho Ultima Build
Looking good ace028, I started working on My Ultima last week and I am planning to do some of these mods you are doing. I want to see what you do on the rear.
Excellent car.

Re: My Kyosho Ultima Build
Well, a quick trip to the hobby store and I found out that the rulux wheels don't fit. I think the other brands like Losi and AE front hex sizes for the 4wd fronts are like around 10mm. The Kyosho are 12mm, so I will be fitting some kyosho RB5 wheels or similar.
Thanks, I plan on trying to fit the RB5 Rear cvds on it, along with ST-15 Rear Hubs (I hear the ST15 hubs are a stronger plastic)
I will post more when I get some more progress, I will try to post all part numbers and brands for everyting to help anyone that wants to do the same mods.

Re: My Kyosho Ultima Build
ace028 make sure that the RB5 CVDs are not to long for the Ultima arms. You might have t use a different bone with the RB5 axel.
I like the st-15 arms, they look a bit custom.

Re: My Kyosho Ultima Build
Ok thanks, I will order the St15 rear arns when I order stuff from tower.
So the RB5 cvds may be too long? I guess I can measure the stock bone length and that should give me a idea if they will work right? I heard from Mikedealer that they should work.

Re: My Kyosho Ultima Build
LOL you just answered the question I asked you on Oople.
And yes the RB5 CVD's fit well; just make sure you use the blue rings on the outside otherwise the axles will hit the drive cups under compression.
Mike; I don't know how the newer rb5 cvd's fit, any idea?

Re: My Kyosho Ultima Build
Well after taking a look at the RB5 exploded parts diagram, I found the kingpin shaft and the retaining screw part numbers, I ordered them from kyoshoamerica.com.
RB5 Front king pin shaft
-LA228
RB5 Front Kingpin shaft retaing screw
-1369 (pack of 10 2.5x5 button head screws)
I also ordered the servo saver set for the original ultima as it was only $4. They didn't have very many parts for the Ultima.
Ultima Servo saver kit
-UM14
This is probably it for now, will wait till next paycheck probably, unless the wife don't look lol.
