Kyosho Assault Restorations
Well... since these things have no resale value , i decided to clean em up ! I started with one that Ive had for about 10 years. I tore it down , cleaned up the parts.. upon searching online for parts , I ended up buying 2 more projects.
This is the one I tore down and cleaned up , and started putting back together. ( i cant find any before pictures ! )
It has a stainless steel rc screwz kit. I honestly dont like the kit. It is better than the original stripped rusty screws . I will need a new servo tray and shock collars. Also need a new head , as one of the cooling fins are broke, along with the carburetor. ( i have found replacements on eBay. ) I have a new body & wing from team blue goove. I am going to have to get a new driver to match !

Re: Kyosho Assault Restorations
I found this one on a face book sale group. I think I got a killer deal on it. Has the original box, kyosho pulsar radio gear. Seems to be complete. It does have a bent frame rail . As usual , all shock collars are cracked.

Re: Kyosho Assault Restorations
This one I won on ebay. I probably over paid for it, but I was determined to get it ! Wasnt as good as I thought it was. It did come with a servo tray , but it was a homemade hack job. The transmission binds up , and all shock collars are cracked. It does have good frame rails , that are in better condition than the 2nd assault. This one will become a donor for now. I plan to take the head & carburetor for the 1st assault , and take the frame rails for the 2nd assault. Later on , this one will be put back together ( hopefully i can straighten the frame rail! ) . It will need a servo tray & shock collars, along with a repro body , wing & driver.
Parts needed : 3 sets of shock collars , 2 servo trays , 1 body & wing set , 1 wing mount. Would be great if I could find a frame rail !
It will be a slow process. I have had thoughts about tearing the 1st assault back apart to polish the parts

Re: Kyosho Assault Restorations
Nice. The Assault was advertised in the RCCA magazine the year I was deciding on what my second RC car might be, after The Frog. I loved how it looked but I wanted an electric 4WD car, and the best option by far, at that time, was the Optima.
I still like how the Assault looks nowadays, with the exception of that weird "too much junk in the trunk" look it has, with the motor mounted so far rearward.

Re: Kyosho Assault Restorations
Nice build, I'm a big fan of the Assault and one day I will have one. Trouble is, they don't seem to come up for sale too often in my experience.

Re: Kyosho Assault Restorations
Looks really nice! The Assault was one of the cars I dreamt about in the late eighties!
How's the restoration been going since your last update?
