update: A preview of things to come

Post by Mr. ED »

This Kyosho Ultima got a big make-over about 5 to 6 years back, and was turned into a 1/12 tourer.

The external 2-gear reduction was replaced by a scrap-built belt drive.
It reduces the complexity and friction, while adapting the gear ratio to the smaller wheels and maintaining the standard rotation direction of the moter.
TF1 suspension arms were shortened and replace the buggy arms.
M-chassis dogbones and wheels with HPI tires took the scale further down.
Chassis, shocktowers, top plate were all cut from scrap.
The mini-shocks are from a vintage kyosho peugeot 205.

To get everything to fit, and well balanced, I opted for a 3-3 battery configuration: with 3cells in the back and 3 in the middle.
(similar to the 4-2 battery configuration of the X-6 I discovered last night.)

Last picture shows the body I used originally.
PS: pictures came in another order than expected: first pic is the original body for this conversion, last pic is the current body.

Same little porsche body, and a few more shared parts like arms and dogbones, but further a whole different car.

I just need to decide on the ESC and receiver and then it gets its own thread. These are just teasers with the added decals and new wheel combo.
(Allways thought those M-sizers looked silly small under this top)
