Build with the aluminum transmission
I bought an aluminum transmission from Walt, which is really nice BTW, and wanted to build something a little different around it rather than put it into something factory. I haven't seen one built up yet so here it is. I had a new black stealth that I robbed the parts out of.
The tolerances in the case is tight. The bearings must go in perfectly straight. When they are in though there is absolutely no slop.
I don't know if it is just in my head but this is one of the smoothest, most free spinning stealths that I have ever built. I think the close machining and case stiffness keep everything in perfect alignment.

Re: Build with the aluminum transmission
Here are some pieces that I have to make the build. I had a new "C" chassis that had some color issues so I removed the anodizing and gave it a rough polish.
I assembled almost everything for a mock-up before I final polish all the parts. The Fox, Falcon, 9 RC10s black/gold/graph, Optima Mid SE EXT, Losi XXXT, B3, B4, 3 T4s, Evader BX, Evader ST, Buggy Champ '09, Sand Scorcher '10, RC10T, RC10DS

Re: Build with the aluminum transmission
Now just to add the wheels and wing to see how it looks. I used the polished screws on the bottom. I think I will polish all the screws on the chassis and use black ones on the nose plate so they blend in.

Re: Build with the aluminum transmission
Thumbs up!
I have my aluminum case from Walt ready to go but not sure if I want to rob parts from an rpm stealth conversion trans or get a used stealth for the parts?

Make sure to do it justice with good bearings and parts. It fits together so well it would be a shame to put in parts that are worn too badly.flipwils11 wrote:Thumbs up!

Re: Build with the aluminum transmission
Thanks for the reminder. I have that place bookmarked. As I posted, this was a quick evening rough mock-up. I plan on fine polishing and adding pieces and tweaks to the final car, if there is ever a final car as I am seemingly never totally done with any of my cars.lpddpd wrote:You've got to get a set of these http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=23224

Re: Build with the aluminum transmission
Very nice!
Any thoughts of stripping and polishing the nose and motor plates? The Sees look awesome against that tranny.
EDIT: After another look I think the motor plate should actually stay black, but maybe polish the nose.
Either way it's better than any of mine...

I did think about it. I have a new Cadillac car that I polished the whole thing. I am going to get some CF towers and I kinda like the contrasts. I do have another nose already polished so I might change it out time to time. I also have aluminum bell cranks that are polished up that look good against the black.
Thanks for the kind comments from everyone by the way.

Re: Build with the aluminum transmission
Torn down to start the fine polishing. I think I might strip and polish the shocks also and find some black springs. Does anyone know who still makes CF shock towers.
I can't seem to remember.
