Rod and VAE's NIX91 test run

Post by vintage AE »

It was a nice Sunday afternoon, so Rod and I decided to hit the local basher track. We wanted to get some action shots of the buggies before we tore them up this weekend racing.

The track was loose and sandy and had a highly uneven surface. I felt that the buggy handled pretty good, but I thought it pushed a bit too much. I plan on trimming the rear motor plate and adding some weight to the front end. I was reminded of how the 10T steered with the skinny truck fronts.

We had a few bashers on the track and there was always concern with being landed on or being hit. The small double on the far side of the track was causing people troubles with the departure being really worn in the center. I ended up blowing a shock, but kept on going... I should have stopped because I ended up landing awkward off the double and broke the shapeways rear hub.

A link to photobucket to view all of the 119 photos http://s1254.photobucket.com/user/TRDbond/library/NIX91%20Test%20Run?sort=2&page=1

Here are a couple of action shots

Nice to see NIX91's driven... :)

I made a small change to NIX63651 rear hub design. It should be stronger now around hinge pin area.
My hubs are mounted to NIX10M car and have been driven a lot during winter time. No problems so far.

You like those last five "SNAP" shots I took Anthony? :P

That track was so rough, we both broke or Nix cars. I broke my front arm doing a 20 turn barrel role down the straight. Car caught a root and just started flipping. You could hear the crack of the 3d part over the nitro cars.

Over all my car felt good and it was a pleasure to drive. Felt well balanced.

You probably broke a replica arm, not race arm?

yup, Niki you are right, it was a replica arm.

I had some RPM rear hubs that used the same outer bearing that the shapeways hub used. I had 4 bearings 2/16x1/2" so I put them to use. It changes the rear suspension geometry a little, but there is way more clearance for the CVD. I'll post updated photos of her all cleaned up with the Detonator body on over on my build thread. Front shock rebuilt too btw along with a JC motor plate.

Those RPM rear hubs probably works nicely. Might be hard to find? Do you have a number for them?
Looks similar to RPM '91 Worlds buggy hubs but uses bigger unflanged bearings?

Too bad there are useless bearings inside bag. Hmm... should I make a really bulky SLS version?
Maybe even camber link ball stud pointing upwards...

I cringe any time I see a Traxxas within 20 feet of an RC10.

Anyway, nice pics!

That's not a bad idea. Make a B5-like rear hub with big bearings.
