- Early Edinger RC10, finally! -

Post by Asso_man! »

Hi guys, long time since my last post here, my little son Timo was born last Friday and I couldn't sleep a wing for two days. I'm so happy, the boy is perfect and the delivery went really smooth. After 4 days at the hospital, we came home and there was a package in the mailbox with a great find in it. I've been searching for an early Edinger car for years and it was about time I find one. It's not complete (no FRP battery straps, no Goodyear tires) but splendid early spring cups, light gold anodized chassis and shocks, nice Edinger motor and on top the double servo-saver steering rack. I'm still unsure what I'm gonna do with it, but it will certainly receive a nice treatment. Finding Goodyear tires will be the next impossible quest, I'll make some FRP battery straps and a tranny brace. This post will certainly sinck as soon as I post it since I'm gonna be totally dedicated to my son. Enjoy!

Well, I have been lucky enough to grab a complete new built Early Edinger car a few weeks ago, so this one is not going to be restored for the moment, I'll just take off the recessed bottom spring cups and install them on the new car. I am pretty sure this car was made during the transition between the Edinger and Cadillac factory as the box and the motor have the Edinger inscription whereas the manual does already show the Cadillac address (see pictures). As you can see, the recessed cups and the GRP battery straps have already been replaced by the newer versions. Note that the writings on the right and left faces are directly stamped on the box as opposed to the later glued printed paper. This car is really a reference as I got it from a first owner that built it in the late '80s and immediately put it on the shelf. The only drawback is that he was a HEAVY smoker and the car stinks like hell, hopefully it's not cat pee, but it's a pity that I will have to tear it down completely and scrub all the plastic parts to death in order to get the smell off. When you buy a new kit, you really hope to have nothing to do but to take dust off it from time to time, this will not be the case for this one as I can't even let it sit in my room without wrapping it in a few plastic bags  . I plan to build a perfect box art replica around it with GRP battery straps and tranny brace, box art rear shock tower, etc... I am now after some nice CRP alloy shock clamps, if anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it!! Enjoy the pics guys!

It's a wonder the platsic doesn't have tar tracks ;)

(and not to steal your wind, but it seems I'm going the same track on the other subject of your thread)

Awesome car, David.

The only thing I can see wrong with it is that it's not at my house.

Yeah I could consider an easy solution, but some parts are covered with nicotine, it really stinks!!

So you have a baby on the way Ed? Or maybe it's a bit too early to congratulate you? Anyway, if you both feel ready, go for it, it's definitely the best part of my life so far, even if I have no more time and space to restore my cars. In 10 years, my son will finished all my projects

Thanks for the comment aeiou, sorry for having taken that old boy under your nose, but there were several similar cars on Ebay recently, not in an as good shape, but not bad either... Cheers guys

Nah, that's the way it goes - it's all in good fun. Congrats on the win. I picked up a pretty used one not long ago, and have my sights on one on eBay now. I hope that between the parts on the two I'll end up with one nice one.

FYI - I purchased a car a while back that had the same problem with the cigarette smell. I ended up cleaning the parts in a light solution of Simple Green and it eliminated the smell entirely. It didn't discolor or tint the white parts at all.
