RC12i Restore ****Finished!****
Just swiped this guy off e-Bay. More than I really wanted to pay but....! My 12e needed a companion anyway. It will will be taken down and cleaned up. I plan on getting her running too. This will be an operational shelf queen like my 12e. (no actual running unless on carpet.) Will start on it as soon as it comes in. Going to sign up for the BST part of the forum too. I'm in need of a wiring harness for the resistor. Looking for a vintage wiper arm too. Radio gear will be all vintage including servos.
As far as I can tell nothing is out of place. Can't wait to see it on person.
Auction pics. You experts see anything missing or out of place?

Nice! I was following it too. I got his tires for my 12is
It's time to stand up to the bully. Support the companies that support the industry, not the ones that tear it down. Say no to Traxxas

I'm starting to wish I had never found this forum or the 12e. So far I have four Associated cars in my stash. I picked up a set of new rear wheels as well. I have another set of front wheels already restored and ready to roll. This should be another fun rebuild.
You guys that are searching for new tires should look on e-Bay now as there are quite a few sets out there.
Cheers,
Don

Re: Minty RC12i
Just scored the receiver and servo set for the 12i. I'll be using my Futaba FP-T 2F again. Just need to get a matching crystal for the receiver. Found a vintage wiper for the new resistor too! Still need a wiring harness for the resistor.

You came close to winning it lol! I actually gave up on my last bid and went out for a cruise. I was surprised to see I had won it when I came home later in the day.SinCityMedic wrote:Great buy! I have to admit I was in the fray until near the end. what

I'm thinking a TOJ body if I can get the one I have straightened out that is. I have two of these but they are not perfect and will require some work. Not sure if I can save the one I have for this car. I hear there might be a re-pop of the TOJ in the future so I might hold out on a body for a while. I like the Can-Am series cars so I'll be looking for one of those body types if I can't come up with a TOJ.

Re: Minty RC12i
Got the 12i in! The car is in amazing shape. Only a little bit of light corrosion from sitting and no missing parts or scratches on the chassis. I have all the paper work from the car too including a complete illustrated 12i manual with seperate sections for the front and rear suspension. Also has the sheet showing the purchase of the car in 1986. I'll be taking the car apart for a long peroxide bath tommorow so it will be a while before I have any updates on this one. I'm thinking about four weeks of soaking in peroxide like I did my 12E.

car is too trick for a resistor
I was thinking the same! What models would you recommend for a period Novak speed control and also a steering servo?

Novak 1 or 4
Novak servo would be nice (hard to find $$$) but a Futaba S32 would be correct.

Re: Minty RC12i
Since I'm stuck waiting on a body for my 12E I decided to get some work done on this car. I've got the Novak wired in and the whole system running. Just need to finish cleaning up the front suspension and true up the rear tires. Also need to rebuild the front shock. This car is going to be a blast to drive.
The wing mount was made using the template provided in the manual. It will be topped with a NOS RC10 wing.
I fabricated the antenna mount from sheet aluminum. It's sandwiched between the ESC with double sided tape.
Space is at a premium on this car so I mounted the receiver inverted on the radio tray for a clean and uncluttered look.
