The uglyness spreads....
I have as much love for newer RCs as I do vintage, but to me the new buggy bodies are so damn ugly. I mean it started with the 8th scale bodies, like the bulldog..
And now the ugly bodies are taking over 10th scale cars...
Am I the only one who hates bodies like this?

Re: The uglyness spreads....
I agree on both counts...disk wheels have got to be the most boring, unimaginative design ever. No doubt it improves airflow, but still...yuck. And that new body--I'm *sure* it does amazing things for downforce when jumping!RedScampi wrote:Those suck! And the wheels along with them.
I think part of the reason is bodies are getting so small, it's getting to the point where a body is practically pointless. Just put a wing on the front shock towers, another behind the rear shocks, and call 'er done.

Was the top car designed by someone that drove an old hoopty El Camino? UGLY!
The bottom car looks like someone didn't know how to draw curves and just kept drawing lines with his ruler. Weird looking.

Yup, we could design the same with just a straight-edge, a compass and some crappy 70's science fiction movies for inspiration.

I've been thinking the same thing. They suck. No paintjob would help.

I can't stand these bodies. I like the fastback design of most bodies from the 80s and even 90s. Long nose and short deck or fastback.

Yup, the whole "cab-forward" design phase race bodies are going through. No doubt they're ugly, but..... um.... how in the world do I finish that??? Oh yeah, their mother would still love them. Maybe.
Function over form, I guess.
I prefer a buggy that looks like a buggy. No need for it to be a Wild One to be a buggy.... but better than to look like something even Leo da V would not touch.
That's my AUS$0.015... US$0.02...

Re: The uglyness spreads....
That full size car looks a lot cooler than those bodies. Wasn't there a body in the 90's that looked similar to that? I think it was called Camino 2000 or something.
Anyway, yeah whats the point of even having the body try to look like anything any longer since it doesn't anyway. Might as well get rid of the canopy and just have some kind of aerofoil for the body.
EDIT:
Found it...

You mean like modern 1/12 bodies, with their almost non-existing driver compartment?Anyway, yeah whats the point of even having the body try to look like anything any longer since it doesn't anyway. Might as well get rid of the canopy and just have some kind of aerofoil for the body.
I think it should be a rule that RC car bodies are shaped in such a way that if they were real 1:1 cars a driver could sit in them without needing amputation of their legs, arms, entire body half, or head.
Re: The uglyness spreads....
i still kind of like these new bodies, i'm not saying i'd rock one on a goldpan but i would on the rc8be.
i like the st bodies too. but i'd probably not like them as much if everyone was running them.

Re: The uglyness spreads....
I agree 100%. I can't stand the way new bodies are being shaped. And I find it very hard to believe that they make much difference in performance. For me, not having a body that is at least some-what scale looking takes a lot of the fun out of RC.

Losi would say that this rule already applies to their bodies...midgets could fit in them just fine if it was a 1:1 car!EvolutionRevolution wrote:You mean like modern 1/12 bodies, with their almost non-existing driver compartment?Anyway, yeah whats the point of even having the body try to look like anything any longer since it doesn't anyway.
