Novak Havoc troubles

Post by Mikeyboy »

Hey gang! I bought a Novak Havoc brushless combo for my RC10 a few months ago. I loved it so much that I bought another for my SC10. I've had nothing but problems with second unit. Initially it would not even program. I called Novak and they said send it back for replacement. I sent it back and received a brand new one. This one worked but shuts down every 5 minutes or so with the red and blue lights flashing due to overheating. The motor is the 13.5 and is geared with the recomended 26/78 pinion spur combination. Again I called Novak and they had me send the speed control in. The tech support guy seemed as if they are having issues with their speed controls. Has anyone else had problems with these units? I've used Novak electronics for 15 years and have always known them to build quality stuff.

Mine had problems with an older style receiver from my Futaba Magnum Jr. It glitched so bad I could not drive it. When I contacted Novak they told me there was a batch of speed controllers that had a glitch in the software and it would need to be sent in to be updated. Before I sent it in I tried a newer radio which ended up resolving my issues.

I am not saying your radio is the problem, but maybe you have one that needs the software updated.

Good luck.

Ed

Same issue here I was told there was a bad batch and was a month behind in sending replacement units out.
Have a nice day! :)

Today I got a package in the mail from Novak. They sent me a brand new GTB speed control with no explanation of what was going on with my Havoc. I hope this ones good to go. :D

I just started my Havoc problems last weekend, I've been buying Novak products since the 410-m5 came out.

I got a Jammin SCRT10 with the Havoc pro/HV4.5 combo. It worked for about 4 1/2 packs then went completly dead, no steering, no throttle, LED's dimly flickering red and blue. I pulled it out of my truck to send in for warranty, I can see something fried on the PC board on the bottom.

I hope they send me a GTB too!! I just put my old GTB in that truck and stole the fan off the Havoc, I hope Novak doesn't mind too much!! I have a big race locally next weekend so hopefully this one holds together until I get mine back from Novak.

BTW the HV motor in a 4wd SCT is insanely fast!! Way too much for me, I had to dial the trigger finger back, but the smile wouldn't go away... until it fried :(

Aaaaahhhh crap! I'm about to get passed by that orange truck!

Mikey,
gear it down some, 26/78 is a much different ratio on an RC10 than an SC10, even with the trans ratio being lower in the SC10, the tire size on a short course truck will really kill it, monitor your temps too, make sure you're not getting too hot at the end of your run, everytime you overheat a brushless motor it will lose some performance.
