Modern cab forward bodies

Post by fredswain »

Am I the only person on the planet that thinks these things are hideously ugly? What happened to the traditional style bodies like on the older buggies? I keep hearing people say that the new bodies have a functional purpose as the forward cab aids in higher frontal downforce. I don't see how since the modern car shock towers are like solid aerodynamic bricks ahead of the body. The old bodies like those on the RC10, JRX, XX, XXX, etc have more eye pleasing shapes to me and the shock towers on these cars were wider up front where air could actually get between them. I remember when needing more front end downforce in the past I just added a small front wing. It was a much nicer and adjustable option. I don't see the benefit of a cab forward on the modern bodies if downforce in a justification for them and from a looks standpoint I definitely don't like them. I'm willing to sacrifice form over function sometimes but in the case of the cab forward bodies if that was the only option I had, I'd stick to model railroading. That's how bad I think they look. The original cab forward body was the Parma Eagle and it was downright gorgeous compared to the modern stuff. I actually kind of like it today. Does anyone else out there not like the modern body trend?

I know it's been said before, but I'm sure there were plenty of people saying the same thing about a lot of the racing bodies in the late 80's early 90's. Some of them were pretty far fetched at the time. It's all relative and has mostly to do with the young'ns. They buy a lot more new cars than we do for the most part...

I don't mind the cab forward shells at all, but how cool would it be to slap one of the blizzard shells on a 1/8 buggy to poke some fun at it!

Most of those don't look as someone stepped on them, unlike the current abominations.

I can only agree! Cliff commented on this as well. Damn ugly, serve no purpose.

Hence why I am rebuilding my B2/B3 to race ;-)
