Post by Drusky »

Got this on ebay for $68, I'm quite pleased because of it's minty goodness :D

Other than that I am amazed by the way the truck has been put together, can you spot the wierd stuff?

The only weird thing I see are the giant 8-32 nyloc nuts on the rear arm mounts...other than that it's a late 7011 kit...with old Futaba 'G' plug electronics. Do tell more.

Looks like the rear arm mounts are on upsidedown?

the mechanic speedcontrol and baterry orientation are not what you'd expect on a black tub

The rear tie rods are awfully far inside the bulkhead, but I assume that was done to lower the ride height. The old electronics, especially the speed control seem a bit odd for that truck. It obviously would make the truck run though. I guess you run what you can get your hands on in some cases.

Bingo, rear A-Arm carriers are upside down and have nuts holding them on, Body has been painted with great patience, paint the outside and... oh damn... didn't post pics of 'em but the 3 piece rims are assembled with the allen bolt heads on the inside of the rims... it's mmmadness

Things that might be ok but are strange to me:
These a-arms are very different to my other 10T, more chunky yet thinner.
Spur gear a lot bigger than I am used to and also quite chunky.

Yeah they changed the arms to those late in the 10T production and through T2 production. Also changed to those on the GT I guess at the same time as the 10T and stayed that way til the GT2 came out.

Spur gear looks the same as what originally came on my T2 and T3

Great news, the strangeness of this build does not carry through to the tranny (except for the liberal use of what appears to be shock oil as tranny lubricant). All is well in the land of Drusky. Now to search for a bearing kit for this girl. Anyone know who sells sets of sealed bearings for the old stealth trucks? I'll go search the forum and post any info back here but as always your input is appreciated!

Here's what I have found after forum search:

http://www.avidrc.com/product/?c=1

http://www.bocabearings.com/main1.aspx?p=quicksearchkit&cat=1

Right then, I've just finished gawking at the manuals and here's the low down:

Stealth Tranny (9 bearings)

2 x 6589 ~ 5/32" x 5/16" (these are in the diff)
4 x 6906 ~ 3/16" x 3/8" (two housed in each side of the casing, they also happen to be the same as those used on the 10t fron axles and sc10 rear hub)
2 x 6903 ~ 3/8" x 5/8" (the large bearings housed in each tranny casing half)
1 x 6906 ~ 3/16" x 5/16" (lives outside the tranny on the slipper clutch, note it's OD is same as the 6589s but ID is different)

Wheels (8 bearings)

Truck:
4 x 6906 3/16" x 3/8"
4 x 6359 1/4" x 3/8" (if you're running the old 1/4" rear axles but if you want to run 3/16" axles just buy 4 more 6906 front axle bearings).

Buggy:
4 x 6902 3/16" x 5/16" (front)
4 x 897 1/4" x 3/8" (back)

Pricing Excercise
Tranny

$1 6589 ~ $2 (metal sealed) code R155ZZ
$1 6906 ~ $4 (rubber sealed) code R166-2RS
$1 6903 ~ $2 (metal sealed) code R1038ZZ (rubber sealed) code R1038-RSZ
$1 6901 ~ $1 (metal sealed) code R156ZZ

Rear Hub
Old Style
$1 7359 ~ $4 (metal sealed) code R168zz
$5 7359 ~ $20 (ceramic/metal sealed) code R168ZZC
Otherwise you use 6906s and 3/16 CVDs

Front Wheels
6906s rubber sealed

Conclusion: If you're after ceramic bearing performance go to boca, they sell sets made up for your car, be prepared to fork out your cash. Avid doesn't seem to do sets but their bearings are very reasonably priced. I can make up a stealth tranny set containing some rubber selaed bearings where it counts for $10. Boca has a bog standard metal sealed stealth kit for $9.

Well she's done, nice modern sealed bearings all round. I really liked buying from Avid, besides the good service they sent a sticker sheet :)
I toyed around with my SC10 wheels for interest sake.
