My MID in action at a vintage meet in Sydney.

Post by Mad Racer »

A action shot of my mid at a vintage meet at Sydney.

I bought this back in 87 new. Raced it in the state titles back than and came 2nd in Mod.
After that i gave up r/c for 10yrs and gave it to my best mate who ran a dairy farm. He ran it in the dairy yard with cow s$%t everywhere. He was more than happy to return it back to me complete with cow poo.

A full rebuild later and new electrics a 10t mod motor i raced it again some 20yrs later. I won it's first heat. Brought tears to my eyes.

Thanks Guys.

Yes GJW i haven't bought this too Boondal. The track is a little too rough for the insane speed this goes at.

It really is my jewel of my collection. Along with a new MID Custom that my Dad gave me before he passed away.

Mr Ed don't you like my cheese black/yellow theme?????

No, I was serious, I really like it. JPS theme and marui shogun style have allways been among my favourites

Oh Ok thanks . It did look so much better when the lexan was new over 20yrs ago.

Have been thinking of a new body but this true to it's race war paint in the 80's.

Cheers.

fortunately there's yellow rims, otherwise you'd have made a few good friends at the track with that black body

I love SWB mids... there's something about them that makes them absolutely loveable. Last of the old-school SWB, metal-chassi'ed 4wd's. They're awesome!

Awesome story-I bought my Optima Mid in '87 also. Way to go, by the way; I'm glad to see you're running it instead of shelving it. What wheels and tires are those, by the way? They look great. Also, since you're running a 10T did you do anything to strengthen the car's drivetrain?

Wow who are you?????????

Thats amazing over 20 yrs ago.

I still remember the whole R&D i did step by step.

Sorry to say in the tiles i ran Turbo Optima wheels and tires lent to me as my tires weren't hooking up.
Was running a Twister 17x3 too. Explained why i dumped in the last leg of the final. Too heavy on the throttle finger while was in the lead by a 1/4 of lap ( Nervs)

My MID also had and still has a Brimod LWB chassis conversion with in a couple months of racing it.

You remember the Alloy wheels ( Who are you ???) Yes did run them but made it front heavy over jumps. Was trying to take steering away with narrow front tires.

Technigold.. Yes i still have the 2 of them that was sent interstate to be re wound ( a couple winds taken off) Re Zapped and re trued. Very secertly done. It was the best motor combo ever for racing Mod for 6 min on 1200mah cells. Don't know why i ditched that motor combo. Guess i was scared that S. Davis had more speed up his sleeve. Motor came from Mr Hodder.

No the drive line is very stout . Still original Brimod LWB belt. Just new belt pulleys.

Wheels in the pic are i think CML wheels for Tamiya. Off sets are great. Have a white set too..

P.S. I have the Finals recorded on Video 8. Must get it transfred to dvd some day.
