JC 2.2 Wheels for JRX cars.

Post by 8rad »

I have been in contact with John Broadhurst at JC Racing and we have been hammering out a design for a 2.2 wheel set for JRX-2/Pro. I sent him some original 5 spoke wheels to measure and copy. The idea that he had was to use a xxx rear and a B3 front. The B3 front is .25mm narrower and the xxx rear is 1.2mm narrower(I will be checking tonight for clearance on the Pro hub). OK, no big deal but the patterns were a little too different for my taste. My reply was that it would be great to have the front match the rears and he agreed to use the dimensions of the B3 front and xxx rears to make a matching set.

So he asked me what type of spoke design would I like? Flat and straight like the original or more modern rounded/chamfered?

So I put it to the people since many of you may also be interested in these rims. As close to original Jrx-2 rims as possible or
something closer to a superstar with narrower rounded spokes?

Please vote on your choice!

I don't have many losi' to buy wheels for, but I think something close to original would be cool......

Problem. XXX rears do not fit. At least the ones I have. They are a quarter inch deeper and the inside edge rubs the carrier and hits the A-arm before full compression. If the JC versions narrower than it will be OK but if they are the same width then it is a no go.

Can anyone check on a 5 link?

I have a losi wheel that I believe is for an xx or xxx vehicle(think they are all the same, and these will be going on an xx4).

the rear offset, from the rear bead to the face of the hub mount is about .910", I also measure a rulux B4/B44 wheel to be almost exactly the same.

I have an HPI losi wheel on a 5 link car that measure .425" from the rear bead to the hub face. So the difference is roughly 1/2". This is also very close to the same offset as a set of the JC spoke wheels for the original rc10.

the easiest thing might be to use the same type of mold as the original rc10 spoke wheels they offer, without the 1/4" taper and a slightly larger hole for the 3/16" axle.

I think the most important thing to factor in (from a racers aspect) is to have the proper width for the rear and front rims. This will allow people to use modern tires and inserts, without having a deformed profile. Otherwise, what the point in making a wheel for modern tires? -Jeff

Agreed! By that thinking if we maintain the correct offset of the Jrx rims and increase the width we still may have clearance issues. One thing is for certain the XXX rims will not work. I will explore the RC10 rear option.

I noticed that the older HPI wheels is roughly 1/16" inch narrower than the xx or rulux b4 rim, that is, the outside of the wheel fit just nicely inside the two outer bead flanges of the newer wheel. i doubt that would be an issue.

I did notice however that the rulux front wheel is ALOT wider than the JC rc10 wheel I have. are all modern buggy 2wd rims that wide?
