Weber 32/36 DFAV 2 barrel carb good, bad ,ok ,

Post by treehugger »

i have been wanting to change the fuel injection on the bus for a while ,and now the engine has blown up  i feel its time to sell the efi parts and go back to something i can understand (when i say understand i mean find someone who could fix an old efi bus )

so i have an offer of some down draft webbers with all the do dads to go on a type 4 ,anyone have anything good or bad to say about them? before i do some damage with the pay pal LOL

you're talking my language now. i had a 79, fuel injected, but i never had a problem with the injection system.

your bus is a 2.0 liter correct? personally i'm a dellorto fan, they flow so much better then webers but are getting harder to find.
they are progressive 2 barrels i assume, hence the 34/36? what year is your bus? does it have "d" port heads? those can be a pain to find manifolds for.

i run dual 40's on my beetle, they are huge.

it is a 1976 westy 2.0 i have no idea what heads are on it i have all the manifolds and parts to install so i am keeping my fingers crossed .
im hoping the electrical ground fault will disappear with the efi fuel pump and distributor as its a pain to have to disconnect the battery all the time   .

you should be fine, the d port heads are 78 and 79 only.

lol @ e-ground fault, i think they all have it. even minor corrosion can lead to ground faults. i seem to always be chasing them.

i went from a generator to an alternator, every works great but the gen light has a mind of it's own.

this is a large spark so i figure it has to be the ignition so as soon as i pull the b rain and all the entrails the sale of the parts will pay a big part of the rebuild . the EFI parts are silly money i think used resale is about $600.

Paul,
Are you saying you have the manifolds to run the weber and just need the carb? if so I have a super clean 32/36 dfav with an electric choke that has your name on it! :D
