Another Schumacher...
I did it,again,I picked up another Schumacher.
It was advertised as a Top Cat and it has 'Top Cat' stamped into the motor guard, but it doesn't have the laydown front shocks and fixed upper front arms...Could this be a Cougar?
I'm green as grass, when it comes to Schumachers...
Looks like he was racing it as a touring car, what with the foam tires and Porsche 911 body.

Re: Another Schumacher...
Hi Brendan.
Congrats on the new find. This car could easily have started out as a Topcat. The laydown front end was quickly upgraded with an upright kit (Cougar) back in the day as the original set up was not overly popular back in the day.
What do you plan to do with this one?
Cheers-Jason

Aaah,thanks for the info,Jason!
That sheds some light on things!
I've almost done restoring my CAT 2000-Just waiting on a few parts for that one and this one here,I'll strip down, clean everything and replace broken or scratched up parts with new ones.
I'll probably sell both the CAT 2000 and this one, though, when they're finished.

Looks like a great project. I like the Tamiya Hi-caps and the super long front shocks. One way to tell if it was an original Topcat is if there are the mounting holes for the front shocks. It is possible to have a Cougar with a Topcat motor guard. Many early cougars had Topcat motor guards out of the box.
Looking forward to the resto.

Re: Another Schumacher...
Nice! I see in the third pic what might be a laydown shock mounting hole. Here is a pic of my much drilled chassis that has one of the mounting holes inexplicably drilled out.

Great Buggy !!!!
I love my Top Cat. Was so nice to drive at the vintage festival here. Very smooth & jump so nicely .
Mine came with no shocks so i fitted up some Yeah Racing shocks up the front and GPM's at the rear with Losi springs.
Pics are on this page.
Are you going to keep it as a Top Cat??.
I just love the inboard shocks.
If you need some parts for the front i might be able to help you.

Re: Another Schumacher...
With all the info (manuals, parts explosions etc) that came with the car,it's got me thinking it's a Cougar.
I stripped it down and cleaned it up,it came out pretty good, for an old racer.
The chassis will get some more elbow grease and some chemical assistance, soon.
Needs a battery box,a rear rim and some Schumacher shocks,I'm guessing those are pretty tough to find, huh?
If anyone needs some freakin' Tamiya Hi Cap shocks, let me know!
The double A4 size exploded view diagram that came with it is awesome!
Always been a sucker for well executed exploded view diagrams.
