A&L and body mounting

Has anyone tried mounting a body to the A&L RC10 conversion? The A&L shock tower is significantly taller than the stock one. I'm wondering if there is a specific body that works with this or if a Viper/Protech I or II can be used. Maybe A&L bodies work the best? Daryl, where are you?

after I pick up my A&L kit, I'll hack up a body to see...even though I have more evil ideas for my A&L kit...

Well, I may try two options:

1) taking measurements and hacking up a body
2) maybe using the stock shock tower with 1.02 rears shocks instead of 1.32s.

Of course, I don't know how well a stock tower matches up to the A&L one. The A&L tower is at least 20mm taller. That's an eyeball guess, I could be way off.

Looks like the body is too high in the rear.

Hey guys. Last night I tried mounting a body to the A&L chassis with the A&L shock tower. The A&L tower is simply too tall. It's about 12mm taller than the stock fiberglass AE version. Soooo, to make a long story short, I mounted all the A&L parts to a stock shock tower and now a body can fit! I used some B4 rear shocks since they are shorter. I still get the same amount of suspension travel. I figured that since shock towers are still plentiful, why not? Bodies are becoming quite scarce. I'll post some pics soon.

I have a Viper with rear end cut off on my runner and IMHO it does fit nice the tub with the A&L rear drive train

Alot of guys cut the backs off the bodies here in Australia for racing. You rarely saw RC10's or Optima's with the rear of the shells still attached.....gave more cooling for the motor and also allowed the use of the taller shock towers etc that were popular at the time.....specially the A&L chassis conversions.

We used to use the RC10 bodies on our Optimas all the time as they were half the price and fitted a whole lot better! They looked better too with a big rear wing and the gearbox visable when the rear of the body was removed.

By the way, Asso_man!, I like the way yours came out too. I guess the A&L's intention was to have the rear of the body cut off. That way you wouldn't have to remove the wing everytime you took off the body.

But, then shouldn't the rear body mount be facing the front rather than the rear? Confusing!

you're right, but when I firstly mount the kit, it was on another rig, then I took it off and mounted it on my runner, body is attached with velcro, so I don't need the rear body mount anymore, it stays there just to not lose it in one of my boxes. Thanks for the compliments

thats the way i saw it, and i dont have anywhere near enough bodies to want to cut the back half off them.
