Possibly a silly question about esc's and lipo

Post by isitafox »

Right, soon I'm gonna have to think about sorting a battery and the word on the street appears to be get a lipo so I was wondering (wait for it):
Is there a budget esc that will control brushed and brushless motors with built in cut off for the battery??

This is mainly as I'm lazy and don't really want to rig up an alarm though if that works out as the cheapest option then so be it!

I can't say 100% if you'll find one that fits all that criteria, but if you sort thru the sites below you will probably find the cheapest options.

I think you'll find that they either can control brushed, but don't have cut-off or have cut-off, but don't control brushed. Good luck.

If you can find a Castle Sidewinder ESC, those work with either BL or brushed, LiPo or otherwise. They're not as cheap as some of the Chinese-made units, but the quality is much better. I have one of these, another member here sold it to me...I run it on my CYANide car. You might have luck finding a used one or post in the "Wanted" section that you're looking for one. Someone here might have one they're no longer using.

Nice one, thanks for the replies!
As expected I can see my cheap fix up job costing me more than I planned!

You can cheap out on the radio (Fly Sky) and the battery (Gens Ace) but to get what you want, go with the Sidewinder. It is an excellent unit, I have one in my sons gold pan runner and it works flawlessly. I did originally have a lipo and a brushed motor in there, just switched to brushless so it will fit your criteria.

Just because adding to the confusion is fun

You don't really need a low voltage cut off. As soon as you notice the car losing power, stop running it. That's what I do anyways ;)
