External BEC needed?

Post by rctenracer »

Went the cheap route with a Flysky radio. Steering servo glitches at 150' away. Was told I needed an external BEC. Running the blitz with a sidewinder sct combo and Futaba high speed servo. Any help is appreciated.

sidewinder = poor BEC, I have read many threads on other forums about castle having BEC issues.

I had a similar problem when I added a high speed servo to my tekin rs pro with a spectrum receiver. I could actually turn the steering side to side and watch the BEC voltage drop on my controllers display to the point the receiver went into fail safe. I added two novak glitch busters and the problem was solved.

like Charlie don't surf you can run an external capacitor but you have to make sure you have the right micro ferret rating the one from spectrum usually takes care of the problem if your running a spectrum receiver your voltage actually drops below 3.5V and it causes the brown out. if you actually get the castle creations 10 amp BEC it will also suite this problem. its light weight, and if you have a castle link programmer you can alter the voltage to 6.0V or to what ever volt you need.

yes - $6 external 3A BEC from hobbyking. Will solve your problems right away and permanently better than any cap (which only work as long as it's charged...)

They be reeeeeeallllly small ferrets, right?

Maybe micro Farad rating? 8)

Novak Stutter Stoppers are usually helpful in this instance.... but they are, in essence, a big shiny capacitor wired to a plug, with a Novak decal on them. Good enough for most of the time - I'd only go a BEC if there was a LOT of large steering movement involved in a short space of time... having said that, I gut a UBEC the other day, and will test it out soon enough...

Thanks for the info on the BEC. I pick up a castle external BEC and solved the problem. Didn't like the extra wiring with that set up and now running a tekin rx-8.

Do you have a pic of the setup before you switched it out for the Tekin?

I don't have any pic's. Castle has the wiring diagram on their site. I went a differant route. I purchased an adaptor from creation fab that allows the external bec to power the servo. The speed control bec will power the RX. Simply solder to power leads for the extrenal bec into the battery leads then with the adaptor it just plug and play.
