Tom's pan car

Post by tommykart »

well here is my failed attempt at my hand at painting. It was a little rushed because the body was damaged in shipping and took the heat gun to get it somewhat back in shape.

failed at
1) no prep scuffing on the body for Fastkolor paint - comes off easily with fingernail - used clear enamel spray can to add a scuff coat to make it last as long as it will. You can paint it over clear windows and doesn't make it look bad.

2) using 1/8" vinyl pinstripe for the white lines, worked ok for the most part but bled at sharp bends and lines. Because of the above fail, i was able to scrape off the paint that bled under the pinstriping

As far as the paint i really liked the way it painted and cleaned up. I used it straight out of the bottle and 25psi.

this project was my learning curve so the next one will be better.

I think that looks pretty cool, actually.

Back in the late 80s, my cousin used model paint on his Tamiya Toyota Toms. Every time he hit a wall he left a bunch of paint on the carpet track. It was hilarious!

thanks trkneller, for the most part the paint held up really well with all the crashing i did at the track last night for its first run. i need softer front tires for more traction, i would come down the straightaway to the sharp turn and slam into the wall  , but i got good at using brakes , but my lap times suffered. My first bit of racing in a loooong time and had a lot of fun.

Looks very good oh, miss when I was a child.
Played hard model before, a lot of paint but long time in the past, feel car becomes old, later a cousin with black paint brush for a moment, I haven't played with anymore.
