I don't know about that, I'm a purist and I know the scorpion has weaknesses that's why I don't drive mine. If I could drive them, jump them put stronger motors in them I might. Welll now I can, I don't know how many of those parts will work on the old scorpions but it won't matter. Bringing me back to when I was 16 and driving my Turbo Scorpion for the first time with a 1200 NiCad Battery and it's breakage something I knew I could fix then was not an issue.

Now it's a different story, I want to beat on this puppy! Take out all the frustration of not being able to drive my original scorpion that way. Bring it on Kyosho!

+1 my Scorpion used to run off down the street because radio was junk. After the curb would stop it, is have to disassemble the chassis and hammer those rails straight. What a nightmare that was. This bad boy is made of T6061 and will be nice and durable. It's a welcome update.

Plus it seems Kyosho had vintage racing class in mind when they made this. I think a spec class for the Scorpion is on the horizon.

Would be really cool if they re-released the LeMans 240 motor lol. Probably a long shot since they have the Brushless LeMans now... Come to think of it, they could just do a brushless LeMans with retro anodised end bells and call it a 240 ;)

Re: Kyosho now on the re-re bandwagon - Scorpion My Story

Post by KyoshoScorpionKid »

You brought back some unhappy memories for me. When I was 16 I bought my 1st Turbo Scorpion paying a lot of money for the best looking car I’d ever seen. I painted it like the box Blue and White and drove it a ton. I spent a lot of time charging and discharging the Nicad Battieries which seem to only last 7 minutes and took 30 or more to charge and about 15 to discharge.

The sad part came when my brother asked me if he could try it, he didn’t know that the car only had a certain range…Well you can imagine what happened. He took the controls and the car got too far and kept going. Kept going right under a driving car and was crushed.

I’ve never felt such a loss in my life at that age, It ripped me in half! And I never forgave my brother for it even until this day.

Well I tried to fix it but it was so far gone, so I purchased another TS and this time painted Red and White box art. The batteries were crap back then, and I could not wait any longer to drive the car I loved. I sold the blue one and parts from the red one but kept the Red and White Body I painted it was something so special to me. Many years later when I could afford to buy another TS I put my original body and Wing on a TS I restored and here it is.

I still have it now......oh and I am 47 now.

I wonder what a site like Banzai will charge for this. Probably $120.

I vaguely recall buying my original Scorpion for $150 or so from RacePrep

Sure as hell beats what Tamiya's been asking for their re-re's.
Completed projects: CYANide Onroad Optima | Zebra Gold Optima | Barney Optima | OptiMutt RWD Mid
Gallery - Coel's Stalls: Marui Galaxy & Shogun Resto-Mods | FrankenBuff AYK Buffalo | 1987 Buick GNX RC12L3

I would guess Tower will sell them for $199ish, Kyosho will sell a bunch of em, probably safe to say we will see more re re's from them.
They layed the smackdown on Tamiya this year. Of course Tamiya may have something up their sleeve.
I have seen nothing about it being limited or such.

Kyosho now on the re-re bandwagon - Scorpion

Post by Raman »

Tower doesn't sell Kyosho anymore.

Tamiyas prices on the SRB, FAV, Wild One were fair. It's the Avante, Egress and Bruiser which were obscene.

I was tempted to buy an Egress but held off..
Reminded myself it's not very scale. Now the Optima I'm game.

AMAINHOBBIES.

Banzaihobby will probably have the best price, since they are based in Japan

So just to fantasize a little bit about possible future Kyosho Re-re's, here's what I'd like to see:

- Optima, or, by preference, Javelin with choice of orange, yellow, blue cage, with updated gearboxes accepting modern spurs, slipper, and belt drive, gold shocks, and all weak points fixed, with modern universals included.
- Original Ultima with updated gear box accepting modern spurs and slipper, gold shocks.
- Optima Mid Custom Special with updated fine-toothed belt drive and new rear gear box fixing the gears' tendency to self-destruct after a while + a real slipper, with modern universals included.
- Lazer ZX-R Mk. II(I), with weak points fixed (esp. front gear box) and alloy pivot blocks included in the box, modern slipper.

You can rest assured with the precedence that Kyosho had set here; that any future re-re will have its weaknesses addressed.

Viva Optima!
