any info on this motor or race
Re: any info on this motor or race
V12 - Thanks for sharing some of those facts... The original owner of "Team Checkpoint" was Bill Steube Sr. who created the brand during the 1/24th scale inline slot car racing days in L.A. around the late 1960's (slot car racing's "Golden Age"). Legend John Thorp who later on developed the Dirt Burners line was one of his close friends and slot car racing buddies. Mr. Bill Steube Sr. and his family (I believe his sons Billy and Mike Steube were also very involved in the business) later sold the company to "Big Jim" Greenemayer in the mid 1970's after slot cars racing's popularity started to decline.
I will agree with you, it is a lot harder to find vintage Checkpoint Motors with the Yokomo can (whcih is what I started with back in 83' or 84') than the Platinum series of motors which came later and were truly "Made in the U.S.A.".

I have 2 of the 'Big Jim' version of the Checkpoint motors. One has a couple runs on it, the other is brand new, never powered. Anyways, those used a very small brush, maybe a 1/4 the size of a 'regular' brush. Dies anyone know where to find them?

It's time to stand up to the bully. Support the companies that support the industry, not the ones that tear it down. Say no to Traxxas

Thanks GoMachV.
Although difficult to tell from a pic, they def look close. Hopefully the store is a reald brick and mortar type store in Vegas. The next time I'm out that way I'll make a stop. I'm not in any rush to run these excepting maybe astro or carpet tracks.
