Baking soda super cures/hardens CA glue?

Post by TRX-1-3 »

Anybody heard of this and/or tried it? There are a few vids about it on YouTube. Might be useful in some R/C applications, I reckon or maybe the shop. You know, one of those 'back against the wall', 'nothing to lose', 'Hail Mary' repair attempts.
Hope you're doin' something fun.

Yes it works as a filler. I believe having it in the mix will also create more heat from the reaction so you have to use caution on how much you use and what you put it on.

This has been around a long time, baking soda and water as an accelerant.

Just beware that like most glues the quicker the cure usually means the weaker the joint. Ie slow cure is a stronger bond.

As mentioned above it's great as a fast setting filler but is very brittle compared to naturally cured CA , it's kind of fun to mess about with but really does get pretty hot , I can't really see a structural application for RC cars except as a filler for deep scratches on an old Tamiya body .
If a jobs not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well.
