Thank you! I asked for a brief how-to and you've responded with a full step-by-step tutorial. Outstanding, thank you so much!
I hadn't heard of Inkscape before now so I'll want to give it a try.
Thanks again for taking time to create such a detailed post. Your decal set looks incredible - I've a feeling your replica is going to be amazing! 8)

Thank you, Doug and Niki for the encouragement, and Niki for starting this project along with Jake.

The decals have shipped, hopefully they viable... I may have screwed something up

Good job bluewormx and thanks for the info on decals. I do have the original Peak Performance decals in hot pink that I'm saving for a Derek Furutani Nix91 build I'm still working on. If you want a scan, let me know.

Thanks for the offer of scanning the Peak decals.
I don't plan on going too crazy with the body and decals. I ended up making a compromise and ordered a turbo mirage body with the scoop. The shipping fron the US made the scoopless body 20 bucks more expensive.

If you cant find the team orion decals, hit me up and I'll send you the file of the one I drew.
I actually used the photo of Derek Furutani's car which is alot clearer and has the same decal.

Have you found the motor yet? I believe he used a Marauder also.

I'm not going to crazy with the build either so having the exact motor isn't too important.

bluewormx, sent you a PM

This has been moving forward. The bodyshell was a complete disaster, I hate painting and suck at! It had bleeds all over, and I'm too embarrassed to post it. Just as well it was a turbo mirage with scoop not really the right body.

The decals, that was a partial disaster, getting what you see on the screen on to paper Is really hard especially when you need to co-ordinate with a third party.

I found a Novak NER-2X AM receiver which is probably wrong but it is period correct. I was running a FM system in 1988, It is so much more reliable, so I would assume pro's would do the same. I'll keep looking out for the NER-3FM.

A quick clean inside and out, and of to the cooking pot with some black Dylon dye. LIke Ruffy said the orange Novak case takes the dye really well so at a modest heat the sticker remains intact.

The only thing is that the case in black shows all the scuffs whereas the orange hides them really well.
image3.jpeg
I still need to change the antenna wire but its still on the slow road from china.

Here is the end result, with the spring spacers, wing, various decals on.

I'm not happy about allot of things but remembering that it is only a replica...

Snivel log:
Ball cups (rere hex)
Wheels (SLS reproductions)
Battery is too far forward, needs to be drilled back 3mm, which is ways to close to original hole.
Tires are wrong, I have no idea which are the right ones.

The list could go on... :D

I agree, the car looks great!
It's a shame about the body.
Just remember, with these replica builds, it's virtually impossible to achieve absolute perfection but I think you've come very close. 8)
I guess if it were mine, I'd go ahead and finish the body and use it as a placeholder until something better comes along.

That is a gorgeous replica! How much do Nix91 chassis sets go for? I know they don't come up as often, but the few that make limited runs, is it easy to expect over $200 for the chassis, top deck, and shock towers?
