Post by Saito »

Sorry if this has been covered before but does anybody have any info on or pics of the 2nd and 3rd place Ultimas driven Katsunori Kondo and Kris Moore? Thanks.

Quote:

First, Kris Moore's third-place car.
Kris used the special Ultima chassis, the
special radio plate with the Kyosho long
shock towers and four Option House*
gold shocks. The differential used a
Kyosho hard final pinion and a set of
custom-made hardened gears. The tires
were stock Ultima front tires on Associated rims and Option
House low-profile tires and wheels on the rear. His car's body
came from RC Performance*, and the speed control and
receiver were from Novak*. The steering servo was an
Airtronics* 557. The power plant was a Twister * No. 201
motor with a set of matched Sanyo batteries. All except the
custom-made hardened gears are readily available. I think that
the custom gears didn't make much difference to the car's
performance, so Kris Moore's Ultima is almost a stock Ultima,
right down to the chassis.
The second-place finisher from Japan, Katsunori Kondo,

used Kyosho and Futaba components for his car. He used all
the Ultima Option House accessories, including the Option
House 240WS motor, universal swing shafts, special rod set
and the Kyosho bearing set. His receiver, servo without reverse
and speed control were from Futaba. I'm not sure of the speed
control model number, but I think it was the MC109.

I did dig this up from an April 1988 RC Car Action article, Project Ultima, by Fred Murphy. The article when on to state Joel's first place car used the stock diff, which doesn't sound right so I can't verify the actual validity of the previous quote.
