question for tamiya experts - grasshopper II tires

Post by germanrc10gt »

hi

a friend of mine called me today and asked me for some new tires for his
grasshopper II. he is living around 400 miles away from me so i couldn't
tell him give the wheels to me to me and i'll try if any of my vintage tires fit your wheels.
thought anyone of the vintage tamiya collectors in this forum could help.

i think these tires should be around 1.9" front and maybe 1.7" or so rear, right?
does tower e.g. still have anything for that rim size? thank you.

hello,

The Grasshopper 2 came in 2 different versions:

White wheels (7 spoke) - Same as Tamiya Striker and Falcon (falcon was molded in yellow). The official tire size is 1.7 inches.

Yellow wheels (round holes) - Same as the Tamiya Fox, Hornet 2, Wild One (all had different colors). Rears are 2.0 and fronts are 2.1

Both sizes can be found, but new 1.7 inch tires are very rare. The first thing to do is to find out which wheels came on his car. Below is a picture of my Grasshopper 2 with the 2.0/2.1 wheels. My wheels made by CRP but identical to the Tamiya version (except in color).

The ones on my car are the 2.1 / 2.0 version. My Grasshopper 2 came with yellow wheels originally, but I thought the color stood out too much, so I went with the CRP version. In addition, I decided to use some Schumacher tire knock-offs.

The wheels you have were the ones that came with the early version of the Grasshopper 2 (and they do match the box art). Those are the same wheels Tamiya used on the Striker, Sonic Fighter and Falcon (in yellow).
