XXT Basher

Post by mikesofunny »

I built a couple XXTs as stadium trucks, but when I was a kid I didn't race one, I jumped it up & off curbs in my neighborhood, or did speed runs in parking lots with friends. I bashed the hell out of my old XXT. So I picked up a third one, restored it, and plan to make it look like a pickup & go have some fun. I don't know what these shocks are (they came with the truck), if you know, let me!

Picked up a Pro-Line 6070-00 Traxxas body mount set

Drilled & tapped the shock tower to mount the rear one (yes, it's a bit bowed, but shouldn't affect performance)

Slightly modified the front body mount to clear the shocks, but the holes lined right up with one set on the front tower

Used (slightly modified) stock Traxxas parts (along with 4-40 ball ends) to mount 12mm wheels to the front axle

After body mounts and the front conversion, just found some old 12mm hexes for the rear, and we're in business

Not sure I'll run this body/wheels/tires, but with 12mm hexes and standard body mounts, the sky is the limit! Excited to finish it up so I can go bash this refined machine.

I used the same setup on a couple of my 10T trucks.

Initially, the front track was a little narrower than the rear. A couple cheap hex spacers cured that.

The Traxxas 4375 is cheap and works well if you open up the center a little.

Appreciate the feedback! The XXT is a bit wider in the front than the rear, so I'm actually having the opposite issue, running the same wheels front & back the front is wider. Not a huge deal I suppose.

Traxxas Rustler and Stampede front and rear wheels have different offsets. The front wheels have a wider offset.

They are still available in 2.2 versions. They are also cheap and tough, perfect for a basher.

Ground out the chassis for a shorty lipo, added a Reedy brushless setup, drove around a little to set-up, handles great! This forum has definitely worn off on me. I never would have considered mounting all the electronics in the center of the chassis, but it seems to fly very flat! Just need to paint the body, ugh!

Finally got a body painted for this thing. It's a Jconcepts 88 Chevy, the maroon color turned out great, but translucent red bled right through that white (more than gray or black!). So the fade is unintentional, but I guess it'll work for a basher.
