Blitzer Beetle Help

Post by FasterLouder »

Hi, hope everyone's doing well in this crazy year!

I bought a Blitzer Beetle for a bit of fun and to relieve the lockdown boredom, here in Auckland, NZ.

A few interesting issues, no instruction manual, no biggie, but check out the body!
Wasn't damaged in shipping, must have happened at Tamiya.
The hobby store I bought it from is replacing it, so again, no biggie, they said a week.

I've restored two Blitzers and could never get the nose cone looking right.
TS12 Orange is way off.
One person suggested grey TS primer, followed by PS1 White, then PS24 fluro orange then TS13 clear?

I've scuffed the cone and I reckon just TS13 clear should look good, what do you guys think?

Here's the damaged body, for sh#*ts and giggles...

Man .. Looks like someone sat on the corner of the roof. Good to read the retailer will replace it.

These BBs always look like fun. I've got a cheap brushless combo on the way for when I build mine. I know NOTHING about brushless, but this will teach me .

The TS13 clear over the nose may work.
The grey TS primer, followed by PS1 White, then PS24 fluro orange then TS13 clear does seem a lot of work, but I think the result will be better.

Thanks for the replies!
The body was replaced in 4 days, pretty quick, especially for being in New Zealand.
I clear coated one nose and it was so-so.
I put an out of the box, unpainted nose on and it matched a lot better.
It's a runner, anyway.
Surprisingly quick with the GT motor from my re-re Bigwig.

Out of all my vintage Losi, AE and Kyoshos...not including my restored Blackfoot and Monster Beetle, I haven't had this much fun with rc for a long time, running these Tamiya re-releases.

Hows this thing holding up? Is it a better car than the monster beetle parts-wise?

Both have their quirks. I prefer the Blitzer family but both are capable with a few mods.
Always looking for new and interesting ways to waste money.
