Losi BK1 restore

Post by radioactivity »

Probably 6 months ago or so, I got a questionable Kinwald BK1.
Questionable because the pics were less than stellar.
Yet hopeful that it was reasonably complete.

After a very thorough clean up ( except the wheels and tires ) and tear down/rebuild.

Every part, bearing and transmission internals was inspected and cleaned.
The car was 100% complete and in surprisingly very good condition. Tires were even in great shape.
Only the ball stud foams were not salvageable!

The body and wing, while suffering some road rash, were not in too bad of a condition and original.

I had gotten some decals and made some masks.

Not exactly box art yet somewhat similar.
I think it turned out pretty nice for what it started out as.

Very nice!

How did you make those drip masks? Put masking tape on something like wax paper and then cut the shape out?

Thanks Frankentruck

I used 3M 1.88" blue original tape and laid it out on plastic from RC parts bags.

Templates were from an older set of drip masks.
I always keep the small parts bags. Mostly to put RC parts in to hang on the pegboard walls.
They are usually just thick enough for masks but also good for mixing epoxy, a drop or two of paint for touch up etc. I can't throw anything away it seems.

Wax paper would probably work just as well but haven't tried it yet.
