Gisom Alloys

Post by dinglem »

I have posted up a fair few cars with the more typical 6 hole Gisom alloys, and also my Coyote build has the lovely gold set of tri-holes pictured here, but I have never started a specific thread for them I don't think. Gisom are Italian-made, and were the rims of choice for the Italian TAG racing team, with the unfortunately named Mr.Gisom being a family friend of Umberto Pernice, one of their star drivers.

I only know of two other sets of Gisom alloys in this tri-hole format, and this week I was fortunate enough to get my hands on this lovely pair. They are the wider rears in a quite unusual candy-ish orange-red colour.

I guess part of the reason for the thread is to make people aware of them, but also because I am now on the look out for a matching pair of fronts in this same colour if anybody out there can help....

Great looking wheels. Especially the second pair. Really nice colour.

Do you mind if I "borrow" the gold set for my Pro 10?

I reckon the tri-hole wheels look better than the six hole or pepper-pot version. Gisom also made adaptors to mount their wheels onto other cars. I have a pair that mount any Tamiya Hotshot style wheel to a Schumacher Cat. They came in a parts lot, never used but without a header card. After a bit of a search I found a picture of a pair like mine in a packet with a Gisom header card.

Toys.............they are!

There is a pair of those Gisom adapters on eBay.... they have been there for at least 12 months and I have purchased and paid for them once already. The seller agreed to split the three or four items in the auction so I could just take the Gisom parts. He seemed fine with it until a couple of months later when I had't received the item. He then said he couldn't split the items, refunded my money and they remain on eBay. Ho-hum... i didn't really need them.

The golds are on my Coyote as a nod to the Pernice cars I saw as a young kid when I first got into racing. It was the reason I hunted a set down in the first place in fact.

I do love the look, although I must admit I have a bit of a soft spot for the 6 hole versions. I try to find a way to get them on to most opf my cars! They did actually sell them with the various fitments machined in. The ones on my Concept Car 4wd have the Schumacher castle fitment machined into the rear face of the alloy itself for example.

You will note i had to fit adapters on race day if you look closely. It dawned on me that i wasn't running at full width so part way through the day a fellow racer let me use a set of nifty spacers which widened the car, but to do that i had to revert to the usual Tamiya 3 pin fitment rims. I think SRM sold said spacers bitd.

Regarding the Gison header card - I do have a new in packet pair of the gold rims too, and they also have a Gisom sticker inside too. I just cannot bring myself to open the packet though, as much as I want to get my hands on that original sticker.

I have been collecting these rims for a while now, and actually have another 2 full sets since taking this photo.

If you look you can see that the gold pair top right in the middle gathering have a very shallow dish - almost flush with the outer rim of the wheel. Those are the Schumacher fitment ones. Presumably the extra dish is taken away to compensate for having the castle fitment machined into the rear face.
