It has its rewards. My ultimate dream is a chip in my arm that arm that tracks everything. It allows me to walk into a store, put a bunch of items in my cart and be automatically charged from my bank account as I walk out the door. Zero interaction. I also think at some point everyone will have a drone landing pad that allows them to buy items in town and have them delivered instantly. Like say, a 30 pack of Busch Light. :D

I do wonder if it was tracking your location and knew you drove by a Red Robin. Even though it was torn down Google Earth may have still been picking up the co-ordinances? Probably spelled rong...
It could have been any app. Many free apps work by integrating an advertising interface, like google or facebook. In addition to showing ads they can be quite invasive looking at call logs, contact lists, gps, cell and computer networks in addition to showing ads. The information is put together at their end to sell ads that are targeted to you, even if you never make an account on their platform.

An easy way to see this is to install a child monitoring software to administer an device. For kids they have to disclose and ask for each permission. I found a lot of this out setting up devices for my kids.

I'd also like to point out that the microphones on all these devices that can work off voice commands are always live. They have to be in order to know when you're talking to them.

It's even disclosed in the fine print that they're always listening, and may record any conversations, for "quality assurance" purposes.

If you own a device that contains any of these virtual assistants as they're called, and don't use the feature, disable any related settings. It only helps.

Newest att/samsung update you can no longer fully disable bixby without using backdoor software. I was able to remove permissions from some of the bixby apps but It would not allow me to change others. The one bixby app I was able to remove permissions for now makes my phone ding a dozen times a day with a prompt on screen telling me it needs access to the mic to function properly.

That's just nuts. I can see this eventually reaching a point where it culminates into a class-action lawsuit. It's really criminal what deceptive practices tech companies are able to get away with these days.

I feel sorry for the person who assigned to monitor what his arm does.

My wife and I have experienced most of the 'coincidences' mentioned above...

It is definitely NOT location related, we can be sitting at home having a conversation and within hours we both get ads related to our conversation - having never left the house.

I have allegedly been known to grab a buddies phone and say keywords like "fat, weight loss, viagra, impotency, granny porn, transgendered, sex change, ect." over the next few days it is always entertaining listening to them mention the messed up ads they are getting on their phones.

That is very funny!

It has become so normal in our lives that it doesn't even bother me, and yea, sometimes it is beneficial. I am not discussing anything wrong or illegal, and lord knows there are people constantly talking about things worse than I am, so figure it isn't hurting me really. If someone is bored enough to listen to my daily life, good luck to ya!

I laughed just this evening at it. The wife and I were in the hot tub last night (so my phone which was bluetoothing music was the only "ear" around), and we were trying to determine what movie to watch for the night. Sunday is always "light hearted" movie night so we don't go into the work week with anything too heavy or depressing before bed. She mentioned Val Kilmer and him being in college and he created a space laser, and I replied with "Real Genius." Well, we ended up with " A Knight's Tale," but when she turned on the Amazon Fire as we were about to sit down to dinner tonight, guess what movie was on the home screen as a suggestion? Real Genius.

I had a similar thing happen but it was even more bizarre, I was walking back home from the train station and took particular notice in this boat on a trailer that was parked, It had an awesome looking Honda motor. I didn’t even say anything I just thought in my mind that it was impressive. I swear that when I got home I was receiving Honda motor advertisements on Facebook etc. totally freaked me out. (I never got any ads for boat motors ever)
