Another RC10 classic rebuild

I just recently dug my 1988ish RC10 out to get back into RC. I have been having trouble finding rear axle parts. I wanted to install a CVA but the ones I found on Ebay are really expensive at $89 and $109. Is there an upgrade? Do people swap out the rear end for a wider one? The bag of parts must have had moisture because the dog bones and some of the screws have light rust and I think I am missing the little spring for one side of the rear axle.

You should put that 2 speed and mip outdrives on eBay, that should pull the funds you need to get your RC10 up and going again

Dogbones, springs, and hardware are easily replaced. Aftermarket replacements are available for all of those.

The description is incorrect, what is in the picture are 3/16" axles. You would also need (4) flanged 3/8"x 3/16" bearings, but then you get more rear wheel options with the 3/16" wheels.

The 3/16" axles would require new wheels. Not many 2.2 setups look right on a short arm car. Maybe JC Racing wheels with a narrow front.

What parts are you having trouble finding? The stock parts are fairly easy to find and work just fine. You can look for associated universals which also have 1/4" axles. The mip stuff is rare and hard to find. You can change to 3/16" axles but then you need all new wheels and tires as well.

You can change the wheel size to 3/16" drive with dog bones by using the b4/t4 rear axles. That is what I have, Associated used to make a kit. There just isn't a big difference between driving with CVA vs dog bones. I swapped out at some point and forgot and drove something like 6 months before I realized I was on dogbones and not cvd's.

There isn't a lot of upside to upgrading the 6 gear to a 3/16 axles. If you want modern 2.2" tires a company makes them in buggy sizes for the 1/4" axles for about the same price as 3/16" axle 2.2" wheel. The 2.2" wheel fit but change the FDR ratios and handling of the 6 gear quite a bit over the stock 1.6" size.

J concepts makes modern 1.6" rear tires as well as rims for the 1/4" axles.

IMHO, the wider front tires look goofy on a short arm car. Everything just looks out of proportion.

I wanted to swap out the dog bones for CVA but it sounds like that may be more trouble than it is worth having an early version of the RC10. I am going to put it back together and see how it goes.

I think I am missing 1 of the springs for the dog bones.

I have the original rear wheels and tires but not the fronts. I wanted to swap them out for taller wheels and tires.

I found an A stamp on the gold pan. Does that give an idea of the age?
