Using 7.2V FET servos with brushless ESCs/lipos?

While sorting out a few boxes of random parts I noticed I have a few nice, powerful, and very fast KO Propo FET servos that run on 7.2V. In the old times you'd need a ESC with additional wire for powering those (I have a few), but can these also be safely used with brushless ESCs and 7.4V lipos?

The instructions for the KO Propo FET 1001 says 7 cells.
So the voltage of Lipo should work OK.

I have an old KO Propo PDS-2123FET servo and was wondering if this is compatable with today's brushless esc's and lipo's?

Anyone have any good experience with these? I'm looking to get one for my SC10 kit I'm fixing to preorder. Word on the street is changing the steering servo on a sc10 is a NIGHTMARE, so I wanted to look into something long term.

So, maybe it's fluky or maybe no one else is running 3S on their Associated XP series brushless ESCs, but I thought I'd share my experience and perhaps save other people the headache.

I don't think that the motor was the problem.

That's what I'm saying; despite the rating, these ESCs don't seem to be able to take 3S.

Did you happen to check the temp of the esc?

The ESC measured 151* right after it let the smoke out.

I last raced in the mid-90s. I got back into RC cars a few years ago with vintage stuff (which to me is just stuff :lol: ). I might try racing again, or at least do practice days.

Are transponders universal or do I need to go to the local track(s)...

Why when I have the Dtx-4 hooked up to car it feels like shit, it’s fast but really choppy. The wires are really clean ,soldered pretty good,long. Then when I use the Tekin rebel ESCs with same car and motor it’s a lot smoother but still not as...
