Associated's '89 Stealth car (RC10GX)

Post by sandkil »

Conversion kit from GrandPrix3D has arrived and the inventory for parts has begun.
Printed parts feels strong, but there's alot of work to be done to them befor they look representable.
A-arms are first sanded with 120 grit, then 800 grit. Finnishing of with a lite dremel 511S Abrasive Buffs 280. Unfortunately there is no way of reaching the nooks and crannies.
I will also Dremle out the front A-arms around the shock mounting points once I receive the carbide cutter.
I will use as much original parts as i have at hand and will also go for Evergreen 9060 - .060" (1.5MM) plain opaque white polystyrene sheet for the battery hold down and ESC shelf.
I apologize to all pan car fanatics, but I'm cutting up this set of Associated 8185 for both the NIX91 and GX. Masami used these as front body posts.

Hi sandkill, are you going to make a Masami replica or are you going to go for a similar concept as your 91 stealth? Can't wait to see more progress. :D

I think I'll make a similar concept as the old NIX91.. I think I'll go for the Masami/Yokomo scheme, but a different colour.
I'am trying to identify the different Yokomo drivers that used the "Masami" paint scheme in the The paint / body shop.

Thanks guys!!
RC10Talk is the "real" forum for RC10's

When studying the pictures of Masami’s car I found a couple of additional holes drilled in the rear shock tower.
Also cut an original bulkhead to shape.
Cut, shaped and drilled the steering bell crank as per pics of Masami's car.

Thanks man!
Pics are taken with an iPhone 11. So no secrets to it ;)

Got some work done on the rear a-arms, universals and links.
I can't talk enough abut these aftermarket injection molded ball cups. Absolutely stunning and just as original. They are the later version with hex all the way.
Anyone interested, I'll give you the contact info.

Small steps. Waiting on parts...
Just noticed that I need to source aluminum M3 phillips screws for the front turnbuckles.

I found that out late but was in luck that gp3d has them available on their website and T-Works on eBay is selling them as well. Hope that helps anyone looking.

Thank you. Unfortunately I didn't... I had these in the drawer. The steering turnbuckles are 2" on these stealths so as Toaster mentioned abow I've ordered repro from gp3d.
