Hey gents, appreciate the kind words and no worries about the questions, just bits I can save for another build one day.

Next stop was the steering assembly and what a pain it was, multiple times I would re-assemble, put in the car and it would bind on either the diff or something else would foul up. I think it is not correct the way I got it and will have to tear it apart again and try something else.

Also cleaned up the shocks although I will likely try to grab another pair of Associated hard anodized ones from the bay as the rear springs don’t even fit correctly so are just mounted for picture purposes...

A couple curse words later the steering is in and the shocks mounted but I really don’t like either and will likely tear them out later and in case of the shocks replace them altogether but it is coming along really nicely...

So I am waiting on a pair of pro-line fuzzie rear tires and have to figure out a way of getting my hands on some rattle can Tamiya spray paint in Toronto (everything has been shut down due to Covid) but we are getting close.

In the meantime I decided to have some fun with the white/blue/red bashed up body from the parts lot....purists, I suggest you look away now, you are not going to be pleased with me

Took off as much paint on the interior and exterior as I could using the wife’s extra strength nail polish remover lol and then proceeded to mask and spray multiple light layers of green paint I had laying around (drawback is it isn’t polycarbonate), on the outside of the body. A quick order to MCI and voila! racing body not intended for the shelf :D This will be used for the left over parts car but thought it would be fun to attempt.

Unfortunately the white Yokomo stripes across the side of the body just don't look right due to the shape of the body...I am thinking of slowly removing them and following the body lines and trimming off the excess.

Quick question, has anyone had success spraying clear over existing paint and decals in instances like this where I have had to paint the outside of the body?

I haven't done that but I can share some general exterior painting advice. If you spray on clearcoat over the exterior paint & stickers, you'll probably get orange-peel texture. Painting your car body like this is similar to painting an automotive finish and usually requires spraying several layers of clear followed by a lot of wet-sanding to smooth out the orange peel. With all the curves and angles of that body, it will be quite the chore requiring steady hands and painstakingly careful wet-sanding, but do-able. I wouldn't recommend it, mind you. The final consideration would be that clear-coat doesn't flex like Lexan paint does, and flexing the body could make cracks form in the clear-coat.

You could use a hair dryer to soften the sticker adhesive under the stickers to help you carefully remove the stickers, and hopefully be able to re-apply them after trimming.

I had a fairly good result using lexan paint on the exterior then clear coating , modern cars have quite flexible plastic bumpers that are colour coded the clear coated and its not too common to see flaking clear coat , you more probably will get crazing , its not first choice though , i mean your spending out on paint and clear coat , why not a new body instead of the clear coat ?
If a jobs not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well.

Well I finally got the proline fuzzies in the mail, solidified a decal sheet and a body and went about attempting to finish this build. Unfortunately I managed to screw up the paint job but to quote Bob Ross “We don’t make mistakes, just happy little accidents”. When I was painting the body I incorrectly sprayed the fluorescent orange first and the metallic blue afterwards which turned the orange a weird reddish brown colour (I was a little irritated and attempt to remove the orange which caused the patina looking effect) but I came to like it after finishing off the white and applying the decals.

Ps cutting the holes in the yellow wheel covers is an art...an art I did not master lol :D

Just a couple updated pictures after I noticed the window masking was still in place in the last couple. I’ll continue this thread as I look for period correct battery cells, an LRP esc etc. and provide an update or two on the ‘parts car’ progress. More to come:

Hey Cplus, you are correct, from what I could gather, Mr.Pavidis used a black LRP ICS back in the day. Kenooze has a gorgeous build here https://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=19372 and has one in his car. I found one but it went for WAY more than what I wanted to pay on the bay lol

Made a bit more progress on the ‘parts car’ opting to use a set of 94 front and rear shock towers with thanks to Factory Works (and you know who you are lol...thanks sir!).

Decided at least on the exterior to continue more of the early 90’s Masami look for it and threw on some pink stuff...still have a ways to go but threw the body on for a laugh...

I am un-completing this car….while waiting for some deliveries for a bunch of other projects currently on the go.

The wing on my tribute car was always a little too big and it just…well bugs me a little so I have decided to do some research to find out what It is. Assume it is a AE RC10 wing of some description…research time :) but any leads/suggestions are always welcome.

…and I finally managed to get my hands on an LRP esc which needs to be cleaned up but we’ll get to that.

Well it came out….ok…I am not much of a paint/body guy and removing and reapplying the decals definitely wasn’t a good idea…oh well I can always order more I guess but here it is…at least for now.

I’ll see about replacing the wing buttons with the blue B4 versions if they become available at a decent price but for now I’ll see about finding the correct receiver and batteries and some correct 12ga wires.
