I pkicked this up in a LHS. Kind of like a bye-bye-Japan present for myself.
It's a strange car though, everything looks brand new, including the bumper and chassis, even the tires: which still have some of those mold bits on them.
But then the shocks were replaced with cheaper (and luckily better) units. The fuel tank looks new but the tubes have had gas throught them for sure, and then there's the odd construction with a fan and missing airfilter. The body is in pretty good state but poorly cut and painted, not really salvagable unfortunately.
I bought it with the idea of turning it into electro but after first inspection probably will have to drill new holes and use the optima mid rear-end for that.
On the other hand, maybe someone's looking for this and willing to trade for an optima, mid, or lazer.
Any way, I won't see it again till half of january 2009, so plenty time to think it over

Re: Stinger MkII, what next?
Nice car. The original stinger was my first real RC. I tried converting it to electric at one point, but as I recall had trouble with getting a pinion gear that would work with the stock spur gear. That was a long time ago, but I suspect that the spur was metric and all I had were standard pinions. That car was a lot of fun to play with. I'm sure you'll be able to make a good project out of it.

Re: Stinger MkII, what next?
By the looks of the picture, the fuel tank was repalced with a newer version. The original has the single pump and the screw on cap. Also, I can't tell is the starter cone is on the car. You're correct about the shocks...the original red ones were replaced by the kelron units...which are much better.
Not sure when you're leaving...but have a good and safe trip my friend.
Regards,
Roger

Re: Stinger MkII, what next?
The tank has a probe in it: turns on a big LED when it runs near empty.
I saw this exact same part NIP yesterday.
I don't know where the starter cone is supposed to sit, or if this car even came with one: there's a flywheel for a starter box on the bottom side:middle of the chassis. On ebay is another Stinger which comes with a pull-starter strip also.
On he outdrive of the motor the previous owner mounted a pulley.
The pulley drives a thin O-ring which runs to another pulley (on the 'erection') and over to the 'turbine'. The turbine is actually mounted backward it will blow air in the right direction, but not as much as it could.
In the mean time the 'what's next question has been answered also I got a used MX-4 yesterday.
My flight is tomorrow about the same time of day and my luggage cases are full already. Not sure how I'm gonna get the 'extra' home yet
