This ride is very little RC10. Like I think I used rear hub carriers for steering blocks (bearings are not in the wheel).
The story goes something like this...
A racing buddy shows up at the track with this crazy beast that is basically an RC10T with Kyosho Big Brute (?) wheels and tires. There were some other mods, but I can't remember them.
He puts it on the track and it flew. He ccould go flopping over the tubes at will and the thing generally looked like an absolute blast. This is years before the T-Maxx. Years before ANY performance oriented MT entered the scene.
I went home and immediately started figuring out my own setup. I ended up using the same wheels and tires because anything bigger was Clodbuster (WAY too big) and everything smaller was 2.2. I had an XXT at the time and my old RC10 Graphite chassis. I figured it would be underpowered with them big tires, so I hacked two motor plates together and mounted two motors on an XX truck tranny.
Here is Gen 1:
It was pretty fast, but with XXT arms on a regular length wide chassis with wheels with very little offset, it was wider than long! Still crazy fun though.
I cleaned the slate and started over. I bought a carbon fiber chassis blank that had a 30 degree kick up molded into the front. I think it may have been Composite Craft. I was able to get about another inch of chassis length, but I had to hack and hack and hack with a dremel and drill to get everything mounted on it. And I didn't stop there, I went for a double deck design with 2 packs and 2 motors. I ended up using an LXT/JRX-T/JRX-2 steering rack, but with a doubled up bar because with just one it would fold up pretty easily.
Here is Gen 2:
After that, I decided it needed still more power, so I bought an Aveox 1409/3Y brushless motor and ran it on 12 cells in series (2 packs with a special plug setup to put them in series). This was probably 5 years before 95% of people had even heard of brushless motors. The controller has terrible resolution. It was designed for airplanes. I think it had maybe 15 steps through the full range. But it was insanely fast. At that time, on pavement, it would win a drag race with anything meant for dirt. Anything. Like buggies with 12 turn motors. Coupled with the big tires, it made some seriously evil noise coming down the back straight at the local track. This was perhaps the most fun I have ever had with RC. The primary problem was the tranny. I'd get about 2 runs on a center gear. Less if I wasn't being nice to it.
Over the years, I worked on it and modified it to be stronger/more durable when stuff broke. And the Dahms body finally was wasted beyond use. That is when I got a Durango body for it. Another thing I did was add dual shocks to the rear. And the RPM two stage shock pistons made a huge difference. In the picture below, the front shock tower is actually the chassis from pic number 1
The last remaining part from my very first RC car.
Gen 3:
You can read some more detail and some pics not shown here on my website: A work in progress
I still have this truck. It sits on a shelf looking for the most part like the last two pics. The Aveox has been redeployed to a project I'll be sharing at some point that is in some ways even more unique.
Thanks for reading!

Since the custom hand made monster truck that was 5 years ahead of it's time was a total dud, I'll have to bring out something more appropriate. Ahem.
These are the 4 I didn't build from a set of 6 I got from one guy. For $800, shipped, for all 6. And he thought he was getting one over on me
They joined the few others I already had...
...and one of them is this one:
You can read all about it HERE.
And finally, a corny RC10 shot.
Pretty soon I will be able to post what I hope to be a very cool RC10 based on a graphite A&L chassis with trailing arms. Ya'all have convinced me that there is more to vinatge RC than building the kit exactly like it says in the directions. Woot.

So Ron, how come you didnt come out and tell me you were the Jeepinator of old from the RCCA forums back in the day when I asked you about that #1 Graphite? I was like hmmm is it him or not.
Heres the post. http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?t=883

That's a fair question.
I found this board on the day I posted that and that was my very first post. I was scanning the front page threads, saw my old username and it caught my attention. I was not sure if I really wanted to participate here yet (after all, I had been reading the board for all of 2 minutes oir something like that), didn't really want to appear as though I arrived just to respond to that thread, and wanted to be humble about it. So I registered to answer your question. I honestly had/have no alterior motives save for perhaps one: lose that old username.
After reading some more I realized this place was something I was very interested in, so I continued posting.

Roger that Jeep! I was thinking of ya awhile back, and was like man Jeep would love a place like this here. I was curious what happened to ya since the days of navigating through all the crap the PIA kids on the RCCA boards would post to get some decent info ended many years ago. Well glad ya made it here! After your first post of pics that were linked from your website, I was like is he friends with Jeep to have admin of his site or what. I got ya, and no worries now that I know the truth. BTW Im going to call ya Jeepinator!Ron Jeremy wrote:That's a fair question.

What was your username back then?
Funny thing is, I actually thought I'd get negative feedback about the RCCA days, haha. I guess maybe ya'all are tooooo polite.
On a side note, I finally made it out to my old stomping grounds hobby shop. As I suspected, it was an RC time capsule. The sheer amount of 15 year old parts hanging on the wall is unfathomable. And then I found the secret forgotten bins and went through them like a kid on christmas morning. Thank god for Visa

Heh if I had half a brain(only have a quartar of a brain) Ide probally be able to remember, cuz I draw a huge blank for alot of my old usernames for forums. Now I use my real name so I dont forget! I forgot my username for S-grid, and I was on that more recent than RCCA. Oh well. I always followed your collection, as you were really one of the only ones that collected AE kits back then. For whatever reason AE kits were like radio shack kits to all the hardcore collectors, but now they see the gold!Ron Jeremy wrote:What was your username back then?

I was briefly posting at RCMT. I think. Back when it was an ezboard? or... Heck. Too many boards, too many years.
The crawling thing was only a short lived sickness for me. But I do really enjoy it. I like the engineering of it and the fabrication part as well. And the slow, technical driving.
My truck is mid rebuild at the moment. ...but has been that way since late summer.
I didn't keep these tires on it for long. They were WAY too big

Composite Craft LXT!
Ingredients:
1x Composite Craft chassis from shodog
2x eBay auctions
1x Trip to LHS
1 gallon Simple Green concentrate
1 can electric motor cleaner
18 years of not throwing any RC stuff away
10x "labor" hours
many pic taking tips in various threads
The chassis is supposed to be for a JRX Pro SE, but I thought it would be cooler on an LXT.
I am not a big fan of the pink wheel discs, but I know where 2 sets are
What color do you think I should make the wheel discs? I was thinking crayon style basic red, backed with white to make it bright.
