MR ED 's ultima hop-ups

Good news indeed! That's less than 60 bucks US.
Also, MJF can be painted. I painted some MJF parts this afternoon and the material accepted the paint just fine (although dying it black would be preferable from a durability vantage point).

Here it is: hacked up in 4 parts and puzzled tightly together.

Build up it should look like this:

With all the effort put in , I managed to get the price down to 49 Euro: including the 10 euro shipping inside Belgium, and the 4 euro extra for dyeing it black.
I've put in the order for one, and it's under review. Exciting!

I think I could probably squeeze the parts for a wing stay to mount on the shocktower, in that same size boundary box still.

Passed the review, received the invoice and paid. I hope it gets here before I leave for my next business trip.

I'll have to trim or countersink the two upperscrews that hold the shocktower to the rear bulkhead.
Up front I I'm using countersunk bolts to fix the topdeck to the front bulkhead too. I knew about those beforehand and perefer them over having to warp the bars around or over bolt heads, but requiring the rear ones and countersinking the tower: that was a mistake on my behalve.

If people are interested to get their own, I'll make a new version to fix this oversight, and probably toughen up the whole a bit with slightly thicker beams etc.
Seeing how this one turned out and having a better grasp at proportions tot he car, I'm confident the new design would be even better
The Cad program I use is not parametric or history based though, so I'd practically have to rebuild everything from the start again, aided with lines I can deduct from this version. That's easier and quicker than to start from a blank sheet, but still probably close to a full days work.

Finally got enough of a car together to show how the cage fits an (almost) stock turbo ultima.
Unfortunately I have 2 other cars incomplete again as a side-result

I want something tubular, that would look right at home if parked between a wild-one and this:

It's probably going to be higher than a stock ultima body cause I want to keep the 2.2 wheels and long shocks but put them to better proportions. And I'll probably widen it to a double-seater too... To keep the legal width but not have the wheels stick out as far.
Retro is key for this one.

Ooooooops, it seems I took a couple turns that made me end up a whole different place than intended. But... I do like where I'm heading now.

Just a couple more details and this one is ready to turn proto-type. Which one do you like better?

I normally always choose the naked version, , but in this case, I really like that hood. So, I'd vote for the Fully Smirked Up version.

The latest additions to the growing collection of my hop-up designs for the Ultima: an adjustable wing mount and an alternative for the option-house motor guard.

I went against my original idea of a shock tower mounted wing to make the design compatible with the gen1 shocktowers too.
(The shorter shocks are obviously not as good as the longer gold shocks, but , heck they look good on a shelfer)
