My 834B

Post by ifuonlyknew »

Ever since the first time I saw an 834B I knew I had to have one. I had seen them come and go on Ebay (that new in box one went for a pretty penny). So I finally commited to buying one. The auction said it is a 834B RPS SE. I don't know if that is what it is though. I don't know too much about these cars. I know that this one doesn't have the stock rear tower, I think I saw a tower like this in someones Delta build. Also are these Yokomo shocks? Any other info reguarding the parts on this car would be greatly appreciated. Also I need a body for it. Did Mrlexan do a repro? What is with the bearings in the front wheels? Are they one way bearings? Oh I just bought this. I haven't got it yet, even if I did, i'm in the Air Force and deployed right now. I should be home in July, so once I get back I will be able to make some progress on this. I am going to try to do the Vintage Nats this year, being that I am going to miss the ROAR Nats. It would be cool to race 2wd and 4wd. 4wd has always been my favorite class. It's so crazy to see how much the cars have changed. I think thats why I like the 834B so much, it's just so simple.

Thanks again,

Nice score.Looking at those tyres it looks like its hardly been run.Im almost %100 that Mr lexan did a repo and I think he also did a decal set.Im sure someone else will confrim this. Its great that you plan on running it,after all that is what they were intended to do.

Half way down this post, there's a good concise description of the RPS by Eau Rouge.

http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=2654

Although yours is a more traditional 834b, you are correct that the shocks are not standard. those are a set of Kyoshos that were originally produced for the 1/8 scales (landjump, vanning, mint las vegas and all that). Very popular for 1/10 scale hop up pre-RC10 ('84 and earlier) and probably put onto your car because the stock yokomo dampers leaked like #$%$. Those are in pretty good shape! Polish the coil overs too..those tooe are worth some attention, probably old CRP or something of that ilk.

Congrats on the pickup. I got an old yoke in 178 pieces right now as well.

It looks more like a hopped-up Wonder Dogfighter to me and definitely NOT a RPS version which had Losi tires, gold anodized rear shock tower...

Correct.I should make sure Im right before posting.Wouldnt the chassis be RPS being white fibreglass or is it aftermarket?A standard 834 had a black plastic chassis and centre chain guides.

The roll bar looks to be a decent take on the RPS one. I like how it has a bit of angle to it on the sides.

Those Kyosho shock are smooth. I have a set saved for an SRB project.

PM sent.

So Kyosho shocks. Is that a Delta rear tower? Also this car has what appears to be a Fiberglass top deck with chain tensioners. Is this a standard feature on the RPS SE or some sort of upgrade? I know alot of the 834B's I have seen have the channel for the chain to run through, i'm pretty sure they changed it to the chain tensioner to reduce drivetrain drag.

Thanks again for all the help,

This post (and there are others if you search hard enough) has some Delta info...

http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=3852&hilit=834b

Yes your roll bar is apears to be Delta. It's actually shown in the upper right of the Dr's first photo. As for the chain tensioner, no se here. There are other folks on this board that posess wealths of 834b wisdom (and parts). Make sure you post more pics when you open the gear box...you may have goodies in there too!

Whooow... that's a blast from the past! Those cars were the only nemisis to the early Optima crowd. Thanks for posting the pix.

Cool, thanks for the info. What is up with the bearings in the front wheels? Are they one-way bearings?

Is this actually an 834B or C? I thought the B had a single damper over the rear transmission?

Nice score on the ol' Yokomo!
I remember my dad getting into RC racing while I was racing and an RPS SE was his choice.
It was terribly slow and inefficient, at least with a "stock" motor. But it handled pretty good.
It is on my "wish list" of cars to collect...... :D
