new guy with some brushless conversion motor recommendations

Post by proffesso »

hey guys, new to these boards, time for a little introduction

I live in japan at the moment, and the auction sites here are a goldmine for kyosho, tamiya, yoke, mugen etc, so after a 15 year spell away from RC, its reawoken my love for RC :)

currently restoring -

Wild Willy
Monster Beetle
Mauri BigBear
Big Boss
Big Brute
F-Ten EP
Graupner Systems Cat NIB
Jetstream 800 NIB

will get rid of the big boss/brute/F-Ten once done, bought on a whim.

currently trawling the auctions here for a rc10 team or worlds car, and many, many others...im a shelf collector, so nothing will be run :) but, seems associated / losi of old werent popular here, and very rare.

also collect motors...currently got most of the LeMans series, and Tamiya Dyna- series...but still after some US motors (reedy Mr/Sonic/Outlaw, Trinity Monster Horsepower etc)..all extremely hard to come by here. but thats half the fun.

anyhow, while I wait for that, was thinking of building a brushless spada, but this will be my first venture into brushless/lipo land, so I have no idea what motor / batt to run.

was thinking -

Electrifly Ammo 3650 3300Kw...runs 3 - 4s packs, coupled with a small 4s 1300mah pack or similar. im not too concerned about runtimes, but longer the better :)

other options are standard car motors, run on 2 or 3s - brands at my disposal here - yokomo, lrp, novak, speedpassion etc. im not really keen on these, as since they are all roar spec, that kinda limits them correct? compared to other, non-roar 540 sized motors available.

i know there are easier ways to get a 1/12th brushless, but I rather like the spada, reminds me of the old phantom ep etc
I'm a retro radio control hipster - I only like the stuff no one bought!

I will openly admit that smaller scale brushless motors are nowhere near the realm of my expertise, but I would guess that living anywhere in Asia you’re going to be able to experiment quite a bit without spending nearly as much as you would in the US. The site below has a pretty good selection of brushless stuff within all range of sizes. I think you’re in the right neighborhood, but again I’m no expert. I have an ulterior motive for posting though…I, for one, would love to see your motor collection.
