First Time Post! Question about B4 MIP CVDs used on B3.

Post by Rootdown4594 »

Hello.

im thinking about digging out my B2/T3 and old electronics after sucessfully restoring my FT RC10gt. I haven't touched my gt or anything in RC in 8 or 9 years until last october when bored one day and dug it out of the attick. now im thinking about restoring my B2/B3. im calling it a B2/B3 because im frankensteining a B2 buggy and a T3 truck together to make a B3. i decided to frankentein them together because b2 parts are virtually none existant and i just found out that thunder tiger now releases the b3 and spare parts under it's own name. i can save money for replacement parts by hacking the two kits into one.

now my question regarding cvd's. do B4 cvd's fit in B3's? I would like the B4 cvd's because it uses that little plastic clip that keeps the pin in place rather than a set screw.

if i can get this car together i might start a brushless motor project with it. back when i was into RC, brushless motor technoloy for cars was very much in its infancy.

wish me luck

oh and another question. does anyone know if the thunder tiger parts are a direct fit for the associated equivalent? i will need new rear a-arms. will the a-arms for the pheonix fit perfectly? the hinge pins aren't different sizes or are they? i thought i read somewhere that all the hardware is metric on the thunder tiger kits. are the hinge pins metric as well?

I run a B2 with B3 rear arms, with B44 rear CVA's
No binding and works great.
Here is link to arms, http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LX3440&P=**Missing%20Data**

Here is the B44 rear CVA, http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXSYV7&P=**Missing%20Data**

Best investment I made since the 6000kv motor !!!

are you using b2 or b3 rear hubs? the outer hinge pin on the b3 hubs are located farther out on the hub.

hmm. if i were to use the b2 hubs with the wider b3 arms, if that would stretch the width wide enough to use rear b4 wheels which have a deeper offset.

so i finally ordered the things i wanted and they arrived today. i decided to go with thunder tiger phoenix wheels/parts and rebuild my old CVD's.

i couple of things i've noticed about the thunder tiger parts. the rear a-arms feel like a different plastic than the stock associated ones. they don't feel quite as strong or rigid. there's not that much of a difference but a difference none the less. the thunder tiger pastic front shock tower is crap. very flexable. i wanted the stock associated shock tower but tower hobbies didn't have any.

im using the old three piece front wheels and original tires that came with my RC10CE that i had laying around. i wasn't sure if the thunder tiger front wheels were a direct fit. they seem to appear to have the same offset as the B4 front wheels. can anyone verify if the thunder tiger front wheels have the same offset as the B3 or B4?

the only thing left i have to do is rebuild the shocks and install my electrics that haven't been used in over ten years. i have a novak fussion and trinity vis extra teamspec 3000mah nihm pack. who knows what kind of condition it's in. im not too sure what the motor is as the sticker feel off long ago. i think it's a trinity spec motor. it has a darkish crome finish, a blue removable endbell, ball bearings and factory installed capacitors. i must have purchased it in the very late 90's.

The MIP shiny CVD's for the B3 are still available if you look hard enough. They come up on ebay from time to time and a quick google search found a few sources. I run them in my B3 and they work great.

another observation about the thunder tiger parts. the rear a-arms have a bit of slop in them in both the outer and inner hinge pin holes.
