The place to go when it doesn't fit anywhere else.

I don't know if it's on purpose, or just a mould flash, but that little ridge on the pistons had to go. It was causing friction with the shockhousing and slip-stick.
(Might have gone with oil, but I didn't think of that till later)

The pink is a very shocking color...seems a bit too light in color to be really cool.

Kyosho shock shafts are a good replacement part. I know many of the Academy team drivers were using K-car stuff in their shocks.

The pink shows lighter than it is because of the flash light. But I'm thinking of mixing some black parts in and make 2-tone shocks.
I've already used some Kyosho parts on the front shocks; pics and story will follow as fit in the story line..

 wow, those shocks look like they copied Yokomo exactly in making a junk shock ( in pink plastic though) I like the pink parts, needs a pink molded academy wing

They did make different colour wings: white for the wyvern, blue for the wyvern EX, a yellow one on the griffin pro which is further identical. They also did blue white and green wheels of the wyvern style. But a pink wing and wheels I haven't seen yet I think.

Which yokomo shocks would these be a plastic copy of?

On with the build; time to work on the front.
The steering knuckles look identic to yok's and pretty much the same as the lazer ones:
IMG_8848.JPG
IMG_8851.JPG
I added the optional U-J's (same length as in the rear) and four 10x5 bearings:
IMG_8852.JPG
A colourless GF10 front shock tower to match the one in the back:
IMG_8925.JPG
I mentioned earlier I only have one set of front shock shafts. Well the same bag also contained the front shock springs: shown on the left of the shock.
IMG_8951.JPG
The shorter spring on the right is what I decided to use and came out of this package (about time those 18euro invested see some use)
IMG_8948.JPG
I decided to build the front diff from about 9 individual packs rather than to break open another ball diff kit. It's identical to the rear one, except it's natural coloured nylon. Set up a little tighter than the rear it's another succes. happy-happy joy-joy

IMG_8954.JPG
With the diff and shocks in place it's starting to look near ready
IMG_8955.JPG
Note the single lower shock mount hole, and placeholder for an anti-roll bar right behind the screws that hold the top of the gearbox on the bottom part.

And the 2 mounting location for the roll-bar on the back of the front arm... An option that never came out for the public.
IMG_8957.JPG
Plenty of clearance for the diff outdrives with compressed suspension now. Thankyou Dremel.
IMG_8958.JPG
The steering unit is smartly done and rotates freely, al be it with a bit too much play perhaps. Here are the components.
Note that there's no option to put bearings, nor need for them truely
IMG_8974.JPG
No servo horns in the kit nor spare parts, but plenty servo mounts. In the bottom the original rod and black plastic ball cups.

The foundations are laid
IMG_8976.JPG
And on goes the rest
IMG_8982.JPG
:?: why do I have 2 of these left :?:
IMG_8980.JPG
oh, right; I used the included black ones for the rod that sets the tension on the rear belt. Let's mend that for "style" sake

The wing is wire-mounted, not my favourite but will do for now.
IMG_8986.JPG
Nearly nearly there now  but I forgot to mount 1 more thing and it's bed time for me. So the last build steps and the remaining pics are for tomorrow.
(That's provided I find time as I'm running the day after tomorrow with my ultima and vaguely remeber something broke in its last finale)

Very cool build thread, was down for count though, when I saw the pink shocks

The Yokomo shocks Reggie is referring to - I´ve never seen them. Does someone have a picture?

What is the difference between a std. Wyvern and an EX?
I´ve got one with blue rims and wing and one with white rims and wing.
The share the same unpainted fiber glass chassis.

Edit: The one thing You´re still to mount, is the top deck, right :-)
Gone fishing

The top-deck was mounted already, but I had forgotten the front belt tensioner
Been out with the wife and daughter all day and just got everything ready for today's race. So the wyvern had to wait.

The blue wing and wheels are normally coming with the EX. Do you have some blue parts on the shocks for that one too?
The EX also comes with an MSC and stock mabushi. It's got geardiffs but I think that's the same for the wyvern. The decal set is also different.

During the spare time between heats I built a mixed shock at the race: with green and black parts. It looks way better, so I'll probably do the same with these pink shocks. But for today I've had enough rc

You're right, I should rephrase that: "more rc means trouble with the Mrs".
But tonight should be fine.

It's done, well almost: got to mount a body still.
Please a little applause for my girl taking the car to the stage
IMG_9040.JPG
You can't miss the added topdeck. Fuggly but functional as it offers a position to mount the servo for the MSC.
(No , I'm not even going to mount that for the pics.) As well as a lowered position for the receiver: right on top of the steering servo.
The belt tensioner is on the motermount , just in front of the pinion, and runs on 2 8X5 bearings.
IMG_9051.JPG
This shot shows the massive ride height. The rear might settle with the moter and battery weight on, but the front is going to need working on, no doubt.
IMG_9035.JPG
The rear belt tension adjuster; now in pink
IMG_9053.JPG
The wheels are the original ZX5 ones for the rear, and RB5 fronts. But that's just for the pics; once I'll be running it, the tires will dictate which wheels get mounted.
