YZ10 2" front tires - rc10talk member advice wanted

Post by xxxmain »

So I'm working on my latest YZ10 now and it's time for rubber choice. When I was a kid the Losi X-Pattern was the sh!t so I'm mounting up a brand new set of those for the rear but what to do with the front??

I have a few other yoks rocking various tires and I don't want to double up. One Yok has Schumacher Spikes all the way around, another has the square block pyramid tires front and rear (TF9 and TR9 I think?). I'll be building a NIB stock YZ10 one day so I don't want to use the stock Hot Laps tires (TF8??). So, what else is there that is cool??

So, after all this blabbing on..... what were some popular 2.0" 4wd front tires (standard narrow width... not super narrow) from back in the late '80's? As I said, they'll be matched with rear Losi X-Patterns.

I'd love to hear some opinions and ideas from the amazing people of rc10talk.

Thanks, Jeff

Hi Jeff,

A common combination of front and rear tires for 4WD back in the late 80's and early 90's was Losi X pattern rear and Losi 4 Row rear tires (trimmed to fit front 4WD rim).

I like it! But how did they trim to fit the front rim? I looks like they just jammed the tire on full-size as the side walls seem to be rolling in towards a narrow rim.

Yes, you are correct. The Losi "4 Row" rear tires are standard width... I made a mistake when I said that the tire is trimmed to fit the front rim. When I looked back at the article, it says The front tires are four-row rears mounted on Yokomo wheels that were trimmed to the inside bead to reduce their width.

Cliff Lett also used this combination of tires on his 1990 Roar winning YZ10. When I studied the photo's, it seems Lett performed a similar modification himself to make these tires fit onto the rims.

Look forward to reading what you decide on and for what car they are for.
