This one arrived to day -
I´ve been searching for a reasonable priced Samurai for about 6 years.
Finally found one.
My brother used to have a Samurai, which he bought in Germany at the same time as I bought my CJ7 golden Eagle.
After building it he lost his interest in it and the little brother took over. I ran it with a 8,4 volt battery and a TechniGold motor. The MSC quickly lost its ability to control speed. So I installed an ESC and gave the poor Samurai full throttle. It was extremely fast, especially at grinding the gears so I had to shelf it for a while. In the meantime, I had earned my first money as a paper boy, and bought myself a Monsterbeetle. I broke the beetles front suspension and didn´t have the money to fix it. Sitting looking at the shelfed monster beelte gave me an idea - the gearbox!
So i stole the gearbox from the Beetle and installed it on the Samurai.
The proud Samurai ended its days as 2wd buggy with tamiya gearbox :-)

Another one for display.
I picked this one up in Japan for about 70 pounds.
It needed quite a lot of work, but now it is in nice running order.
I was surprised just how well this car goes.

That's very nice.

I say the reason they drive so well is the center diff. Really was a advance design in it's day. Ultra light thanks to a very low parts count. Rear trailing arms gives very good grip.

Anyone noticed the different profile tires from front to rear.??

Larger Diameter front wheels with lower profile tires give better steering response while the small diameter rear wheels with larger profile tires offer better grip and help absorb bumps and maintain traction.

Such a cool buggy.

Just to keep the thread moving, here are two projects of mine. A Ninja and a Coors-Melling Thunderbird. The Thunderbird will get a Shogun shell because I think it looks dorky with the stock car body.

I still have a soft spot for the Galaxy but will not run mine as i found they spat the idler gears faster than i can chew a cheese burger down.

I had the red version with the hot 360RS motor. Well hot in its day.LOL.

The red seems a bit rarer than the blue 540rs version.

Finally got to the Samurai corner.
Still to solder the antenna, mount the motor and gearbox chain sprocket.
All plastic parts has been renewed, except the rims (expensive as h...)
I ought to do something about the scratched rims, but I don´t dare dismount the tires. These are very expensive aswell.

Looks like a beauty, Dennis...but what, no snow on the tops of those tires? The only thing I didn't care for with the Samurai and Hunter aesthetics is that fugly peanut-butter-colored plastic they used...somebody has to do a Samurai and dye that stuff black or red. 8)

Thanks Marc,
The hot tires must have melted the snow 8)

A black chassis would be really cool, perhaps I should give it a try and dye the old chassis.
I´ll have to "import" the dye though, as we don´t have nylon dye in Denmark? I guess Danish hippies wears cotton :D
