when painting.....

Post by KyoshoScorpionKid »

I know you paint from Dark to light paint but when your painting gold and green which one comes first?

Franco

The reason I am asking if you painted the body below what would get painted first?

on a clear test piece i would test them both. see which color is more transparent and do that one second. most likely i would guess to do the green first and gold second. i would hate to see any green bleed through the gold.

you could also apply your backer white or silver before you start the next color, so for example, start with green, then back with white or silver(your preference), then remove the gold mask and paint with gold, then back with white or silver. this way the next color would have to bleed through both the main color and it's backer. In this case it probably wouldn't matter what order to apply.

of course, using a gold backer on the green might be cool, in which case, spray the green first, then back it with the gold as well as paint the gold section.

Ditto on the previous posts. However I would definately do a test piece with the green backed with gold. I have been painting for over 20 years and depending on the type of green, you may end up with a weird brownish-green color. I would definately use a solid backing color (white or black) on the paints. A little extra cost, but the final product should be much better. -Jeff

Hmmm I've never run into the gold changing the green color... I almost always back green with gold.... If I have it.

It really just depends on how transparent the green is. I typically use allot of candy collors, so they are affected by the backing colors more than a solid color would be. -Jeff

I could see what your saying... Now that i think about it, I don't think I have ever painted anything candy green, LOL... Its always been metallic greens.... I'm not a big fan of green, but back in the day when I was the local painter for everyone I would get some requests for it. I used to help a friend of mine with his late model super stock and in dirt track racing, it was always a big no-no to have anything green, (Considered bad luck).... Anyway, I am very superstitious (Sp?) and so I carried that over to my R/C racing... :)

Its just me... I have been known to turn around if a black cat crosses my path in front of me, :) It really irritates my wife when that happens, Haha...
