the booze thread
the booze thread
i didn't want to keep posting likker in the beer thread so i figured i'd start a booze thread.
last night i went to the packy (up here in new england liquor stores are called package stores) looking for my new favorite booze, they were out so i picked up this:
heaven hill's trybox. heaven hill makes jim beam along with a variety of high end bourbons. trybox is raw unaged evan williams bourbon.
pretty tastey but not as nice as buffalo trace's white dog rye mash.
this here is by far one of the single best bourbons i have ever had, pappy van winkles family reserve 23year. if you like bourbon and ever get a chance you must try it, it's so smooth you'd think there's no alcohol in it. the 20year is also very good and more affordable.
so, what do you guys like to drink? post'em up!

Re: the booze thread
No ice, no water. Neat-
Re: the booze thread
neat is the only way to go IMHO on most whiskies.
the only time i use water at all is for super hot (high proof) shine, a quick shot of water after really brings the flavor out.

Re: the booze thread
Awesome, I haven't consumed much hard stuff in the last few years but when I'm out and can have a few without needing to drive or speak coherantly, my drink of choice is Grand Marnier on the rocks.
When I can get it and it's affordable, I prefer this over the "standard" Grand Marnier and I take it neat since I don't want any melted ice ruining the experience!
A few years ago my wife surprised me and got this for my birthday, and I sparingly sipped and enjoyed it neat, for over a year or so on special occasions.
If I had $800 laying around I might be persuaded to get a bottle of this.

12 is my goto and I've had 25, that would be the favorite, but at close to $850 a bottle I've only had it once

There are some side effects to Irish Whiskey consumptionPhin wrote:So the 21 year old bottle costs less than a $1?Charlie don't surf wrote:...every step to the right is at least double the price of the one to its right.
**I read it after posting and went back and edited it to read left, but must have forgot to submit**
This one being my favorite for the money- http://www.drinkspirits.com/whiskey/bushmills-16-year-single-malt-irish-whiskey-review/ hard to find anything above Black Bush in this area without special order though.

Re: the booze thread
If you like rum, you won't find a better one. Ok, maybe you will, but this one is very very good for the price.

Re: the booze thread
mount gay is amazing, sailor Jerry is my current favourite. Need to be careful calling shops "paki shops" when in the UK, it means something completely different

Re: the booze thread
Since I am enjoying this beverage, here is my addition to the thread. Very much like vodka and will really hit you if you are not careful. The cost of the bottle in the picture is about $4 .
