Kyosho Tomahawk.

Post by 1300GT »

I've just finished rebuilding my Tomahawk over the last year and a half. Major features are machined chassis rails and front axle clamps, Kyosho mini Inferno shocks front and rear, CRP wide front axle and counter gear, Thorp diff and handmade shock towers and radio plate. The wheels are Pargu's. It also has hex rear wheel adaptors for modern wheels. This ones a runner. Enjoy the photos and feel free to ask any questions, Chris.

That´s a mean machine - You´ve done a great job.
I guess these shocks will make it perform twice as good as the original setup.

I prefer the tomahawk than the scorpions, it came with the diff, a more sophisticated setup overall. Also had a lightened front bumper. Love what you have done with your tomahawk, I am thinking of getting the same alloys too for my beetle yet to be built.

Love the Le Mans green motor. Does the tamyia SS rear paddle tires have the same inner diameter as the kyosho sand super or goodyear tires? Thats a perfect fit, from the looks of it.

Thanks fellas. These are my favourite Kyosho buggies. I first saw an ad for the Tomahawk in 1985 and knew I had to have one. Ron, Tamiya Padlatraks and Super Grippers are 1.5 inch inner diameter just like the Kyosho rear tyres. The Tamiya tyres have an inner ring of rubber which has to be removed from both sides of each tyre to use them though. Check out the photos to see what I mean. The red shaded area in the first photo is what needs to be cut off on both sides. The second photo shows the end result. I used a good pair of scissors to cut the excess rubber off. I also used Tamiya ball diff grease on each sidewall to help get the two wheel halves together. The Tamiya tyres are a bit harder to get on, but they do fit. Chris.

Nicely done :) . Its good its not the other way around, the paddles being larger in dia

I saw the 1980s vintage promo vid on youtube dedicated to the tomahawk, its in Japanese. And this thing is beautiful! One sold for $850 on ebay, brand new. If u got the extra cash than thats a good buy for one that is rare and in mint condition in a box.

Next to the tomahawk, I love the kyosho beetle, I just recently got a huge parts lot from Germany through ebay, The guy was kind enough to include a set of front and rear GOODYEAR tires with yellow rims for a fare price by closing that auction. Well I will get my circuit 1000 buggy soon enough

Yep. You're right about that Dennis. I have some Progress shocks that look good on the Tomahawk but the mini Inferno shocks are a superior shock performance wise.

I've seen that video too Ron. The old 80's videos are great to watch. Sounds like you got a good deal. Post some pictures when your Kyosho is done. Chris.
