RC10 wiring?

Post by jackflak »

O.K. I now have or am waiting on all of the parts to finish my RC10 build. My concern now is how I connect everything.
I have set the car up with a 6 cell 7.2V NIMH battery pack. I will also have a 2.4 Ghz radio transmitter and receiver. I have an esc w/bec coming. I will be using the original motor (brushed). I noticed that the motor, which has a connector already installed has a matching male connector which has a small resistor or something attached between the red and black wires at the connector. Do I use this or is it intended for the old rheostat wiper arm configuration?
I know the battery connects to the esc and that the esc connects to the motor and also has a connector for the receiver (3 wire small (bec I am guessing)).
Also the servo for steering connects to the receiver.
What am I missing?
Can someone provide me with a simple wiring diagram or something?
Any help is always greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Later, Jack

Ignore the capacitor on the motor connector lead, it should be moved to the motor. The best and easiest method of installing the caps is as shown below. These keep the car from jittering or glitching under acceleration. The car will work without them but they are beyond highly recommended

The other diagram is from tamiya, plug the servo into channel one, speed control into channel two, mount the switch and plug in the motor and battery. That's it. Nothing plugs into the batt slot on the receiver. The esc supplies it with power

Hey gomachv thanks for the help!!
When you say ignore the caps do you mean to remove it from the plug? Or do you mean just leave it alone?
The motor already has two of them installed and soldered to the case as per the diagram you sent.

Best to move it to the motor as shown (across positive and negative)
You can leave it on that connector if you want but it's better closer to the motor plus you probably aren't going to use that connector anyway are you? Better to chop off the connector from the motor and speed control and install a better one anyway, like a Deans Ultra plug which is easy to solder

If you want to keep the motor plug original, I have the part number for the correct mating end and terminals that can be soldered onto the speed control easily. They are very cheap from Digikey. It will look a lot better than splicing wires together

The ones that gomachv mentioned, deans ultra plugs, are one of the best. They are also the most common and easy to find, most hobby shops will have them in stock. Make sure you put the female side on the battery and the male side on the esc. Having the exposed electrodes on the male side attached to the battery is a recipe for fireworks. Also, you will need at least one extra male side to use on your charger.

This is all I have so far:
RC10 kit assembled
Bought the body on ebay
Bought and installed the bearing kit
6 cell 5000mah battery pack is installed
Steering servo (not installed but I have it)
Waiting on: electronics (2.4 ghz trans/rec, 320A esc w/bec) and Deans plugs

If all goes well I hope to have all of the parts in a week or so and thanks to all of the help on this forum I should be finished with the project very shortly there after........

Sounds like fun, make sure you have things like servo tape and basic tools so when all the parts are there you are good to go!

Have you checked the trans to make sure they built it correctly? If its a stealth make sure the slipper is slipping not the diff. If its a 6 gear make sure it is free and not slipping. The most common building errors are in trans and shocks

The forum is picky on the size of the pics, you can either make them smaller or use a external like photobucket.

I did go through the stealth trans and found two missing balls so I ordered a new set and replaced them all. Also had the wrong bushing in there (the one for the slipper clutch) so when I installed the new sealed bearing kit I corrected that error. The trans and clutch appear to be in fine working order to me....Thanks for the heads up though! I do have the tape in the box you spoke of and the pinion gear I assume is the one already mounted on the motor shaft, so i think it is all good!
