What nitro engines to keep for RC10GT2?

Post by mAdMan »

I purchased a brand-new RC10GT2. For 40$. Yea not joking, gotta love Craigslist. It has the stock AE.15 in it. I put in some traxxas nitro and a new glow plug from my pile of nitro parts and she fired right up, revs great, and runs around like a new car. Could not be happier.

Now here comes the 1000$ question. I have been doing electric conversions to GT's and GT2s so I have a lot of stuff that I planned on selling eventually. But now this one runs so good I'm thinking about keeping one a nitro. What stuff should I keep?

I have:
Engines:
-Pull start OS Max CV-R .15 complete
-Non PS OS Max CV-R .15 complete
-Pull start NIB OS Max CV .15
-Pull start used OS Max CV .15 It needs the piston and sleeve I have, installed.
-Non ps used OS Max CV .15 Unknown condition (I have another piston and sleeve for it.)
-pull start low hours AE .15 complete
-Pull start Picco 12-RC speed

4 AE gas tanks
5 exhaust kits

What motors are the keepers (regardless of condition/I can repair) and what ones are worth selling?

Last I recall when people raced 1/10th stadium trucks, .12 was the legal size racing motor. Then .15 happened, and eventually .18 went in for rtr vehicles and non racers. Why? Because a bigger motor is perceived to be better. it's a marketing gimmick.

I would keep all of the OS's that were in pretty good shape.

The first one I had in my rc10gt rtr ran hard. Guys at the track were impressed and ran right up there with the OS motors. Had over a gallon in it (I think?) and flipped it over and lost the air filter sucking in a bunch of clay toasting it. Couldn't get a piston/sleeve to stay in it so I replaced with 2 other new take offs that might've lasted a quart before losing pinch. IMHO its nothing special to hold onto.

The others? If its an OS and runs then its worth holding onto. The picco's I've had all run hard but don't know history of yours...
