RC10 CE Restoration

Hi Folks-

Here's what I'm starting with for my first RC10 restoration.

I bought this off the original owner whom had it sitting in his attic for 20+ years.

That's quite a nice find emmARRpee!
Looks like she will clean up nicely.
Some dissambly, a toothbrush, simple green or mild soap of you choice, some elbo grease and it looks like you will have a great start.

I started disassembly and am just putting everything in Ziploc bags to keep it organized.

I'm not sure if I'll reuse the old electronics but I'll clean it up and throw it in the storage bin.



I do have a question- is it safe for the anodizing to use Goof Off to get that old double sided tape off the chassis?

Goof.off will work good. Acetine or wd40 are also what I use depending on what crud is stuck to the chassis.

wd40 works well for removing the adhesive. Also lacquer thinner but the fumes can be really bad. Just be careful while scrubbing because the glue may have trapped some grit that could scratch that nice anno.

I have another question- what is the best way to take apart the ball joints? I took off that nut and tried pulling on it without any luck. I am scared of breaking/bending something.

Using pliers to twist off the rod ends (ball cups) is by far the easiest method, but the pliers tend to do a lot of damage to the rod ends. My personal preference is to remove one or more of the hinge pins instead.

If you remove the E clip and hinge pin, the ball cup can be remove with a twist of the hub carrier...

Thanks for the tips- I got it all apart and cleaned it up!

There are still some light stains that even Goof Off wouldn't get out. I am planning to work on it a little more before starting to clean the other components.

I’m going to try to soak the chassis in some diluted Simple Green and then hit it w/ an old power toothbrush.

Over all it looks to be in good shape though.

I got the wheels and tires cleaned up.

Hmm- I also figured out that the Proline RC10 Classic tires don't fit! I'll see if I can find some other wheels on eBay that work w/ the new tires.

I will get some more use out of the original tires. The rubber is really dried out and hard compared to the new ones.

I wouldn't soak in simple green even diluted. Try acetone to see if it will lift the stain.
