And found this little gem NIB. I found it a lot easier purchasing it now than I did all those years ago. I had to save my pennies for a long time BITD for one of these as I was desperate for one due to the CAT's lack of space...

Those little Futaba receivers are cute aren't they
Because of the space problem most people back in the day would run a standard size receiver with the case removed and heatshrinke'd and servo taped on top of the belt cover. Those little Futaba Gems where really expensive.

Now you mention it I do remember receivers having the cases removed and heatshrinked, although I never did it myself. I certainly taped esc's/receivers to the belt cover on my old cat.
I can't remember whether I mounted the Demon King on the chassis or topdeck though.
Those mini receivers certainly were expensive, I'm pretty sure I bought a new one from a club member at a slightly discounted price but still took lots of saving.
So been a bit busy and waiting for parts but now fitted the electronics and mounted the wing.
I have the correct servo & receiver although I've found and fitted a Futaba MC111B speed controller. This should really be an MC108 or Demon king esc to be truly correct. I have an MC108/MC8 esc but I've fitted that to an A stamp RC10 that I've also been working on as that is also correct for that car
If I ever find a Demon King speed controller, then that will be going in.
I'll have to sort out a motor then just the body to cut & paint.

I've noticed the missing chassis post -- I've had to do that as well. I reckon this was common practice since space available for electronics is so tight in these little cars. Since the posts are nylon and are through-holed to accept the servo flange, I doubt that they'll contribute much to overall chassis rigidity anyway.
Looking forward to seeing the car with body and wing.
The paint is just a copy of my original short CAT that I bought new, basically just recreating that car.
I have 3 Demon motors, a 27T, a sealed 22T and a Demon Power King but they all need attention and the labels are not the best condition. I've also got a Trinity Monster Horsepower (85) modified but not sure on the wind. Finding really nice condition motors has proved to be the most difficult to find.

Thanks, I've really enjoyed building this car, it's jogged loads of memories especially when I've been searching for the all the old electronics. I even found a mint condition Futaba Attack R transmitter just like I used back then.

Well Ive been away a while and having a 2nd child has taken over my hobbies, but now he is 8 months Ive finally found time to finish some of my cars (Still far to many cars left in parts to build!!!)
How can we easily and for sure make difference between short and long wheel base C.A.T. ?
Chassis and plate are the only differences, or other parts are also differents ?

I believe yours is an XLS (based on widening spacers) as the XL is like the SWB with a longer chassis. Nothing wrong with leaving it as an XLS, have fun restoring it and so much easier locating parts than a SWB CAT.
Recent aquisition, a one careful owner CAT swb. According to chap I bought it off, he bought it new and raced it solely on grass in the Cardiff area. Even the tyres are original.
Plan is to recommision, for use as occasional gentle runner....
